Hi,
Not mine fortunately but my brothers.I realise it is "off the norm" but being diabetic and having suffered high bp,two heart attacks and a stroke myself I am concerned for him (he is not diabetic). He had a celebral aneurysm about a month ago of which he has recovered well (60yo but very fit) however he visited me yesterday and he asked me to take his bp which was 204/113,an hour later it was more or less the same, this morning he seen someone through his firm (a doc) regards going back to work again his bp was high 221/118! This chap told him to make an appointment with his gp but made no comment regards abstaining from work. I must add my bro is stll a keen cyclis(ex semi-pro) and pedals the 20 mile+ to and from work and indeed was race training when his aneurism occurred.
Am I alone in thinking bp at that level would should require immediate treatment??

I would certainly recommend IMMEDIATE treatment, & professional advice about exercise.

Anything above 160/90 needs to be brought down.

Tell him to see GP asap if not a trip to the A&E !!!

Thanks sue! Its really upsetting me that I did not insist on this yesterday (he is one of those who sees a doc once every 10 year).I am just gobsmacked that the guy he seen today did not give him the same advice!!

Get it seen to NOW!

did he go get seen by the dr??
hope hes ok :)

As far as i know my bro has gone (cycled) to work today,he informed me that the earliest he can see his gp is thursday!!
He has seemingly ignored my advice (which was as per sues above) to go to a+e.As said before I cannot believe the doc he seen yesterday did not advise similar.

I don't think cycling is a good idea while his blood pressure is so high. I only live down the road to my surgery but I have been told not to walk there when I am going to get my bp taken because even walking can elevate blood pressure. When beginning exercise when bp is high it has to be not strenuous and build up. He really needs to to to A+E or see a doctor and he should not be under any stress until his blood pressure is under control. I have found that doctors at work placements are reluctant to tell people to go home. I saw a nurse at my place of employment about pain in my back, I had also had a dry cough for a long time since having had the flu (way back in the days of Hong Kong flu) and the nurse said it was only indigestion. I started a temperature and realized that it couldn't be indigestion so went to see a doctor straight after work especially as it was a Friday and it turned out to be pleurisy.

hi,
My bro seen his doc yesterday and she whinged that the guy who seen him on monday did not see fit to act with more urgency!! He has been prescribed atenolol (50s) told to go home and rest and certainly no work or cycling and await results of urine/blood tests.Amazing considering his bp was apparently less than it was at the weekend and monday (190 over something)
Just brings home all the different medical opinions most of us on here have to suffer from time to time.

I am pleased that he has seen his doctor and is now being treated as he should be.
