The term "big boned" lol repeatedly told this growing up!
Thanks im just real nervous what sort of side affects are likely as I'm thinking throat closing and alsorts my anxiety is so bad could I ask what happened with in hours of you taking please as I have young children to look after which is why I'm thinking morning time to take it
Well for me there was nothing major. I was feeling dizzy anyway but I didn't feel any worse than I did already if you know what I mean. Thinking back I started on Ramipril and found it didn't suit me as my BP was not going down and I had a dry cough, bit of blurry vision but that could have been the Diabetes. I went on to Candesartan which suited me better at the time. Is there anyone at the surgery you could speak to to settle your worries, easier said than done I know but you may find if one bp med doesn't suit you, you could try a different one there are lots out there. Anxiety can play havoc, the first thing I would and still do is read the contradictions in the packet, just the worse thing for anyone with anxieties.

That’s really interesting @searley - thinking back to the many years ago I was on it I experienced this but never put it down to the Ramipril. I used to have to wear glasses outside even on dull days. (I have glasses all the time now for sight but not then) I still have the slight problem but not anywhere near a bad because I do have a bit of dry eye now but very manageable and I don’t think it’s my BP tabs I’m on now as I had a few years in between without BP meds and I had the dry eye syndrome

When I started ramipril I did a lot of outside shooting and I felt the eye issues within day, and it stopped as quick after I stopped taking it

Back then wore glasses while shooting and that actually made the issue worse as the wind blew sideways across the eye which was more uncomfortable

My brother was on Ramipril, but he had to come off it due to coughing, which is a known side-effect. He went on Candesartan and has been on it ever since with no issues at all. I'm fine on Ramipril.

We both have a form of monogenic hypertension, a gift from our mom. I also have bouts of low potassium, which sends my heart rate flying. I've had to drink a potassium supplement in the past at hospital when my heart rate went to around 180 bpm.

Exercise hasn't made any real difference to my BP. I do the equivalent of three marathons a week.

Is.anyone on ramipril on here please I've done 24 hour blood pressure monitor test 169/95 does it cause many side effects and lower blood pressure fairly quick thanks also is exercise bike safe at this level
I've been on Ramipril for about 3 years, plus Candesartan for the last few months. On the Ramipril my BP came down from very high levels to about 170/80 and the Candesartan brought it down to the 160/65 level. No side effects from either of them. I do retain a lot of fluid still and have been on diuretics to try to deal with that. They, however, seem to have damaged my kidneys and I have had to reduce them to one Furosemide a day. Since then BP has dropped to 137/53. I am almost 80 and T2. BP was always high as far as I can tell and I have been on one medication or another for 30+ years. I am not the anxious type - too laid back in the opinion of many medics, and others.

I've been told to take at night but would day time be better whats likely to happen after taking the Ramipril
I'm told the effect of BP meds lasts 24 hours so it shouldn't make too much difference what time you take them, as long as it's not too close together, so the same time every day. I never have felt headachy or dizzy with the Ramipril, but my son did. He was put onto BP meds while taking steroids for sarcoidosis. The steroids have been stopped now, but he is still on the BP meds, but was taken off of the Ramipril because he felt it was dropping his BP too low. He now has a different one.

The thing is, there is a difference in reaction even between myself and my son. No two people are the same. The effect shouldn't be immediate though and you would probably be aware of feeling shaky or weak if it was to cause a serious drop in your BP. At the level you are prescribed, it shouldn't disable you.
