Blood readings

Hello

I know that meters are not 100% but the other day i took a reading and then another and then another within 2 minutes of the first on a different finger but on the same hand.
Assuming that I hadnt dipped my fingers in tate and lyle or touched something.. How usual is it to get 3 different readings all 0.2 greater then the last within 2 minutes??

I have just been DAFNE educated and used to only test x 4 a day, morning,night and before meals but now randomnly test to see the effects of my dose choices.. so im intrigued to see what my blood does all the while..

thoughts please?

I once had consistant 'Hi' readings on my meter and was taking a 5 unit correction dose every 4 hours as i was poorly.

I tested one hand and again got a reading of 'Hi' curious like you also i tested my other hand and got a reading of 17... considering my meter readings up to around 27 i think, this was a mass difference. i was using an optimum exceed at the time and had a few problems with it and decided there and then i was going to swap.

i spoke about this with my DSN and she said it was common to get different readings from different places.
 
HI, dont underestimate the tolerance of bg level meters, + - 10% I believe, so a 5 could be anywhere between 4.5 and 5.5..........
 
Paul,

This subject comes up time and time again on the forum, most of us have had a similar experience, more often when using two different meters and getting two different readings from the same blood sample. Just go with your first reading, 0.2 variation is nothing to worry about and the best advice is always to stick with the same meter and carry out a control test regularly to establish the accuracy of the meter.

I will do and to be fair .2 variances dont concern but intrigue me.
There was a day though when i would feel the onslaught of a hypo and test to find a reading of 25+ then do another moments later to find it sub 4.0.... At my MOT the nurse just swapped the meter over and so thus far I havent had the big swings when I know I am bombing out on this meter.

Is there any mileage in the theory that the first spots of blood from a finger prick are no good and should be discarded? They certianly dont want the first spot of blood when I am being hba1c tested...
