I was diagnosed with a fasting blood sugar of 244 on sat...been on a low carb diet for 3 days and on Metformin, just got my test kit and my BS was 72? Can that be right?

OK I took it again and it said 134 and then again 95. So it's all over the place in the minutes?

Thanks....after pricking myself many many times I finally think I got it...averaged around 120...then I ate a piece of cheese and turkey and it was 115? Weird it was lower?

Meters have margins of error (no meter is always 100% correct), blood is not homogenous (two drops of blood won't have the same amount of glucose), and anything on your fingers can contaminate the sample yielded higher/lower results than what is correct.

Add all those factors in together and a reading of 120 followed by a reading of 115 is unchanged as far as I'm concerned.

Cheese and turkey will likely have virtually no effect on your blood glucose level since they have no carbs. 115 is not really different than 120, given the accuracy of a typical meter. Generally it will take from 45 minutes to an hour (or thereabouts) to see an effect on your blood glucose levels after eating something with carbs.

This web page provides excellent advice on timing your blood glucose measurements:

Thanks....how are my BP levels so much lower than my fasting BP from 4 days ago?

I'm type 2. So does Metformin do if I got my blood sugar down in 4 days? The meds couldn't work that fast. When they start kicking in would NY bs go to low?

Metformin doesn't really do much compared to low carbing, and it's unlikely to make a difference in 4 days. Metformin will not make your blood glucose too low.

Then why is it prescribed? I was reading how some people take it for pcos or weight loss.

Metformin will have a positive longer term affect on your HbA1c score, but no discernible affect on spot finger prick tests.

I think studies have shown that Metformin will help lower your HbA1c by a few percent over a set period, so not a huge amount but more of a helping hand to go along with more important lifestyle changes.
