just a quick one. if having high blood sugar is bad. what if you run it low and keep it low? is that just as bad too?

i find that my after 2 hours of eating tests are on average of 5.5mmol to 6.5mmol is that ok or should be aiming lower?

If you go too low e.g. below 3-4 mmol then you could have a hypo. 5.5 to 6.5 is a good reading and no need to aim lower

Well I'm type 1 using insulin, on my carb-counting course this very question was asked, the Endo believed that frequent and prolonged hypo's are detrimental to health so it was advisable to limit them as far as possible, he did say there was on-going research into the effects of hypo's on the brain but have never asked what the outcome was or if it's still on-going.

You being a type 2 running levels of 5.5-6.5 we can safely say your OK

its weird tho ive not actually changed my diet that much if im honest. i guess i got type 2 when i was not so good at my diet. maybe i had it for years. dont even know if you can find out how long you have had it for

I would not worry to much as your not using any hypoglycemic medications your highly unlikely to suffer from hypos. When I was testing on a regular basis I often saw readings below 4 in my case BGs rose without any treatment probably due to a liver dump in response to the low BG.

In a study of 1055 patients with type 2 Severe hypoglycemia occurred in only 5 patients (0.5%), all using insulin.

Yes you can have a hypo as a t2 on medications, and as you bg levels drop, so important to find a balanced diet that works for you...
Agree to keeping levels no lower that 6 % it is what feels right for you....
