Afternoon

Just a quick question

When it’s cold do blood sugar readings rise

Also mine are constantly high only been on metformin a week my BS were sitting at 28.9 when I first started now they are down to 12.9-13.9 average

But today they are back up to 15

In on LCHF and stick to religiously

Just wondering if it’s cold and stressing out as just started back to work after a week off

Will it start settling back down I’m hopping this spike is a one-off as yesterday I hit a 9.6 and was well chuffed

Also what’s the best carb rate I should be looking at

I have set myself on 100g all day for all my meals or is this too high

Afternoon, stress, weather all makes a difference. You are doing really well that is quite a fall. Please don't worry as guess what? it raises glucose levels.

As 100g seems to be working I would stick to it for a bit, if after a few weeks you stop falling towards target range then you can adjust your carbs levels further.

A low carb diet is said to be anything under 130g carbs per day so at 100g its a good starting point. Are you planning to go lower?

And yes, temperature can affect bg but it's more likely that the stress will have more of an affect. Keep up the good work and remember to keep checking those food labels, those pesky carbs hide everywhere!

Thanks, for this info. Why can't the diabetic specialist nurse have told me this this morning. I really appreciate this

DNs are sometimes time poor and the majority of them cannot/will not endorse lowering carbs for a number of reasons. So, it falls to us to learn as much as we can about the best ways to manage our condition, that is, the best ways for us as individuals. This sometimes means trial and error but persistance pays off in the end.

I like to try to keep my BG levels normal as much as possible, so my absolute maximum of carbs is 60 gm per day - but everyone has a different amount they can cope with and as a rule exercise increases it. I also need to keep my meals fairly well spaced, eating morning and evening for maximum effect. You might feel easier about staying on the level of carbs you are at now, and seeing how your levels are in the New Year, or drop them a little now to see if you can get down into single figures as a Christmas present to yourself. It is entirely up to you.
