Hi had anyone else noticed an increase in their blood sugars when on holiday? I’m still trying to stick to a low carb diet with lots of salads, water and soft drinks and no alcohol. Before I came away my readings were between 5 and 6.8 now this week they are between 6.5 and 9!!! Help any advice would be appreciated

Soft drinks are sugar bombs. Even drinks with sweeteners can raise bg, especially if drunk in quantity. I wonder if there are also ingredients in the salads that are relatively high carb?

Are you somewhere nice and hot?

Hi Linda, it may even be the change of pace. I enjoy my holidays but stress levels do rise and you are probably doing extra stuff as well.

Thanks Alexandra100 could be the soft drinks. At home I might have 1 every other day, here I’ve been drinking a couple at least. I’ll cut back and see if that helps

Thanks KK123. I’ve done a fair amount of walking and swimming I must admit x

I’m in Dubai Guzzler. Just here for a week of sun and relaxing

Enjoy your holiday, everything will settle down once you are back home. Soak up that sun, bank some vitD and recharge the ol' batteries!

This message comes to you via envy and jealousy ;)

Yes I found the same in the summer. Much higher than normal but I blamed it on stress and not knowing the ingredients in what I was eating. It came down slowly when I came home.

Thanks Flora123. At least I can look forward to it coming down. Was worried I was doing something wrong . Being diabetic is still new to me

Personally I don’t avoid alcohol. I’m on such a strict LC diet that a gin and slimline is my treat and it doesn’t affect BG, in fact it lowers it temporarily. I am always worried I’m doing something wrong too. I have had so many blips and they seem to be just that. I had a reading of 8 today for absolutely no reason. I blame the kids stressing me out!
