Blood sugars

Blood sugars this morning 9.4 30 mins later 11.1 without eating or drinking
Most likely Dawn Phenomenon. In the morning your liver dumps glucose to help you start your day. And it tends to aim for what it considers to be your "usual" levels.Yours is a tad high, but I see you're new here. Just started on this journey perchance? Can we help with anything?

I’ve been type 2 diabetic for over 20 yrs on diet then tablets , in the last 15 mths I’m on tablets and insulin , bloods are still up and down , although I’m told I’m doing well . But I’m finding at the moment my bloods are a bit hit and miss .
Thank you for your answer , I wii keep checking in now I’ve actually decided to join the diabetic community

Hi and welcome

Do you follow any particular way of eating?

Just my 3 meals a day, I do have the odd treat , but try stay away from to many carbs , I guess I’m still learning how much insulin before meals , I don’t actually count carbs didn’t really want to go down that route , but I have got a carbs and calls book , which I think helps

Your meter is your best friend, especially now with the insulin. Do consider counting carbs an option (You don't have to dive straight in, just learn how to first and then, when you're confident with it, give it a go in practice), as if you're going low carb with the odd treat, you might over or undershoot with a fixed dose. (But that may just be the control freak in me talking).

Hi @wilson-ann

It would really help forum members to help you appropriately if you complete your profile settings to show the type of diabetes you have and details of the medications you take for your diabetes. Your type will then show under your avatar every time you post. There is an option for Type 2 with insulin.

Speking as a type 1 on insulin, I'd say it is really hard to get blood sugars normal on insulin so if there was a way to reverse your dependence on insulin that you inject then I would do it otherwise you will always be stuck will apparently random spikes and drops. Nothing is random of course but there is quite a lot of variables we can't compute such as stress, insulin injection sites or start of a bug!
Changing the way you eat is likely to be the best way to get your metabolic health back to the level where you don't need the insulin and it has been done by people here. Its up to you though so ask if you need further info or recommendations on where to research your options.
