Hello all, yes the title is not a lie. Checked my sugers, and to my horror, its nearly 30. So my question is this, should i be feeling fine?, i feel absoulty fine, no pain, sweats or tiredness, of course its a concern, so what do you recomend i should do? Try and lower it myself or seek medical help for being that high.

My husband has often been that high with no ill effects (obviously you're doing hidden damage that high), he seems to slowly drop back to near normal, which for him is still high, after a while.

He never seeks medical treatment for it but I have heard you should.

Are you Type 1 or 2?

Have you doubled checked? test again just in case you had sugar on your hands etc.

If I was 29 I would be feeling quite rough, personally if it turns out it is that high I would seek medical advice as its not doing you any good. :(

High bg in any form makes me feel rotten and most others too. That you can tolerate bg of 30 suggests your body is used to it and of course thats not good

Still it depends on a variety of factors -ie wrong food based high bg is going to be a bit better (for T1s at least) than chronic lack of insulin based high bg.

If you are T2 then it suggests to me you need to look at both diet and meds- you cant sustain such levels and remain well and if you arent linked in already to med proffesionals, then I suggest you do so

In the meantime, think about cutting/managing your carbohydrates better and perhaps take a brisk walk.

No diabetic EVER wants to see that on a meter!

Lack of choice of insulin for newly diagnosed patients.
Dog owners who let their dogs poop in the street-a hazard for most, but worse if you're visually impaired!

Hi,
As others have said 29 is very high. You haven't given us much info to go on. How long have you been diagnosed type-2? What are your readings normally? Can you think of any reason why your BG should have gone so high eg; had you eaten a lot of carbs prior to testing?
Always best to test again if you get an unusual or unexpected reading; wish I'd taken my own advice yesterday! On way home from school with my sons I checked my blood, didnt't get a lot of blood on the strip, but it worked and showed a reading of 2.2. I was a bit surprised as I felt fine, but my son's were chattering and I was distracted, and treated the hypo(as I thought it was) accordingly with 4 swigs of lucozade and 4 bits of my son's Dairy Milk choc. Only realised my error about an hour later when I felt like ****,tested and my Bg had shot up to 12!. I'm usually in single figures and a reading that high makes me feel truly lousy.
I'm a type-1 of 21 yrs, but I'd hazard a guess that a BG of 29 is not a normal occurence, for most type-2s.
If you didn't feel the effects of the high, I would suspect your control generaly is not as it should be and you should speak to your diabetes specialist about this.
Welcome to the forum :)

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
That's the sneaky nature of T2 and the reason why people often have it for years before it's diagnosed. High blood sugar itself doesn't always cause symptoms. Unfortunately, keeping up high BS for a long time does damage to the micro blood vessels. Deprives parts of the body of a correct circulation and things go from bad to worse.
It 's been my experience that it takes diet as well as medication to get back into the normal range. probably even more in T2 than T1, because of the insulin resistance.

Unnecessary rudeness, and any PC
The only times I've ever been that high are either the result of DKA or a really bad hypo (rebound hyperglycaemia), and I produce no insulin at all. It equates to being 5-6 times higher than you "should" be, and over 4 times higher than starts becoming toxic to your vascular system (at around 7 mmol/l). Not looking to scare you but I'd seek medical attention fairly rapidly, you may feel fine now but it's doing you no good whatsoever! Hope you get sorted soon.

You are right, but without high ketones, and feeling perfectly Ok, this isn't likely to be DKA
