Re: Bloods at night

I think that is too low to go to sleep on. Do you know how much her levels change through the night?
If they usually go down overnight you will need to get her to a level where she will not go below 4 during the night.
Maybe a carby snack such as a couple of plain biscuits or small cereal bar to keep her going through the night.

Last night at the same time were 6.6 then 4.6 when she woke in the morning that's why I'm a little worried but hate waking her with it Being school but she's only 8 if I give a biscuit with it being a fast sugar will it go high then drop even lower in night, really confused

Re: Bloods at night

What does she usually snack on during the day to keep her levels good if they fall between meals?
If she drops low in the night and has an hypo she will feel even worse for school in the morning than if you wake her to give her a snack. Most kids love a midnight feast! :D

Hope all goes well.

No its far too low given she dropped 2mmol the previous night, as Angie says a small carby snack is in order.

As a type 1 myself I wouldn't go to bed with levels in the 4's.

At school she had a plain biscuit ,ok I will wake her now with a treat that should make us both happy her for the biscuit and me to put my mind at rest, thanks for your quick response x

Sean 51,
That is a good level maybe for a type 2 (although it can cause dawn phenomenon if they drop overnight too) but it is too low for a type 1 on insulin, especially one not long diagnosed and still settling into good control.
I would not go to bed at 4.7 on insulin.

Just given her a digestive with a sugar free drink ,she was not happy to be woke but hopefully will go the night now without a hypo, thanks

Re: Bloods at night

No worries,i would prob just have kept testing bs every few hours anyway although i desperately need some sleep.I normally just text out nurse but want to give her a break with it being bank holiday, have so many questions daily, still in shock and trying to get head around it all

Re: Bloods at night

My son is 6 and like him to go to bed with a snack before hand so I know he stays safe through night something like a weetabix, toast, banana. I like him to go to bed with a bm of at least 6/7. He was only diagnosed in March so I still get up in night (2am) to check him.

Re: Bloods at night

Anything under 6 and I would have something to eat... Or drink. My favourite is my 7 dolly mixtures..... Yum!!!

I would still try to keep checking at 2-3 am. Although for me, it doesnt mean getting out of bed!!
