1) I hate metformin as its making me feel sick
2) since diagnosis all I think about is what on earth I'm going to eat for my next meal
3) combine 1 and 2 and I feel totally chunderous at the thought of consuming more protein when all I want to eat to make my stomach feel normal is a load of carbs.

Apparently way back at my last blood test (I had them yearly due to gestational diabetes ) my hba1c was 44 so technically pre-diabetic but apparently this isn't a "thing" in my PCT so they didn't tell me I was borderline. I bloody wish they had and I may not be feeing so sick and quite frankly miserable at the thought of never eating bread, potatoes, shortbread and cake again.

@New_Type_2 - Hi. Go back to see your GP and ask if you can be prescribed the slow release Metformin which is kinder to your stomach. Your HBA1C result at 44 would indicate prediabetic, 48 and over would indicate Type 2.

Trust me, it passes. I was a chips-at-every-meal type of guy and I struggled at first but, persevere and , in a shorter time than you'd think, the desire goes.

Agree with Chris. I'm now 'enjoying' plates of vegetables when I used to love potatoes, chips etc etc. Stick with it - I've been amazed how quickly my taste buds have changed.

@New_Type_2 Did you go back and ask your GP for the slow release Metformin?
I assume you are testing your blood sugars with a meter?
I am out tomorrow for lunch with a friend and I am having Cheeseburger and chips, this is my once a month treat to me. When I get home I test and if it is within range then I am happy. If not? Then it's too bad. Don't make yourself unhappy. Test to find out what certain foods have on your blood sugars.:)

Oh I feel for you, I really do, I've been going through this myself and it makes me feel fractious, grumpy and frustrated - and until just the last couple of days - hungry all the time. What's changed is that I've begun to eat the high fat/low carb diet. I had something with cream and cheddar cheese, last night and crab with cream cheese the day before and for the first time since December I wasn't hungry 2 hours later! Plus looking at the scales this morn, I'd finally lost a few more ounces. I'm not saying I don't still yearn for some crisps, a baked potato or such, but if I'm not hungry I don't think about it so much. You just have to be bloody minded about it, and say to yourself "I'm NOT going to let this win." We're all here to help. Try making a list of what you like to eat. And I'm sure we can come up with solutions or suggestions for you.
