Hi all ,
T1 diabetic, background retinopathy for past 15 years (diagnosed almost 29 yrs ago)
I've had very erratic blood sugars the past week either hypo or +16 mmol.

For the past week one eye has been very blurred, and my eyesight has always been perfect.

Not sure whether I should
A) not worry, wait and see if once I sort my sugars out it settles?
B) speak to gp?
C) go to an optition for an extra screening (next diabetic eye check due in 6 months)

I'm not sure what the protocol is?

Go to your optician. As it is one eye only, it is less likely to be due to recent high sugars affecting the lens and could be due to diabetic retinopathy affecting the macula - this would need hospital referral. The advice from the eye screening programme is not to wait for your next screening if you notice any symptoms affecting your vision.

Odd that it is just one eye, if it was due to erratic bg levels you would expect it to effect both eyes.

I would go to your Dr's and if necessary they will refer you straight over to the hospital Ophthalmology Clinic, if your vision gets worse then just go to A & E and they will bleep the on-call Ophthalmologist. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks everyone, I'll make a Drs app next week.
It would be best to see your optician before then - they can then advise your GP how soon you would need referral. Presumably you are not over 60 and therefore at risk of wet AMD (if you are over 60, it would be best to see the optician tomorrow).

Hi all, well just got back from the opticians, he thinks everything looks ok, and thinks it's just down to the erratic blood sugars (which I'm working on separately)

It has stopped me worrying to get it checked though :)
