It would seem that you need to cut back a little on the carbs in your meal, only other way is an increase in meds.

As I've said, your not to far away, just a little adjustment needed!

Don't forget that as a Diabetic these meters and the strips are exempt from VAT to you. Costs vary from just a few pounds to £20-30, dependent on the specifications. Strips if you can't get them prescribed are available on the internet, Ebay is a good source.

Here is the downloadable VAT exemption form from this site to take with you, not all Pharmacies are aware of this blanket exemption. So ASK for it and provide the form.

I never knew this either and suspect I'm not alone.

With vat back up to 17.5% this is a great saving if you aren't lucky enough to be able to get strips on prescription.

I am having the same, I went to optician in July before I knew I had diabetes. First lot of glasses were hopeless so they re-tested and put in new lenses. Just before I collected these I had my diagnosis. I told them on collection but they said oh well take these anyway and we will re-do for free within 3 months or for a small charge within 6 months.

However, I cannot see anything between my face and arms' length! I am seeing them again tomorrow to discuss what we do whilst we wait for my levels to reach some sort of normality.

So frustrating.

Hi,
Dont know if this helps but with your new glasses does it look like there is a net curtain in front of your eyes, thats the only way i can explain how it looks.

If so tell your optition and they use a light into the eye and make an adjustment and all is well, It`s what i had now when i go for a eye test they know to look into my eye. Dont panic its normal but the optition cant see through your eyes.

Hi,
I too suffer with blurred vision exactly the same as the person who was asking about the problem they were having. I mentioned it to my optician who said it was nothing to do with my eyesight. My diabetic nurse said it could just be when sugar level is either a bit high or a bit low, but nothing to worry about. It may settle down later.
I also suffer with light headedness, sometimes I feel as if I am going to fall over and sometimes I walk with a stagger is this normal?

Seems rather a strange thing for an optician to tell you that Blurred Vision is nothing to do with eyesight ........ Surely it is a symptom which is affecting your eyesight ??

Did he mean that your problem isn't due to a problem with your eyes but some other underlying condition ? Your Nurse is correct in that high Bg levels can cause blurred vision and should settle down once the levels are reduced.

However it needs to be borne in mind that there are over 900 possible causes of blurred vision many of which can be serious. Especially so when linked with other symptoms.

I would advise you to get this investigated properly by your GP even if you might need a referral to a Specialist Opthamologist.
