Diabetes...
Hi, my name is Kevin. I am a Brit living near Toulouse, France.
A week before my 53rd birthday I was diagnosed as being diabetic, so missed out on the Birthday Mojitos this year.
I joined the forum roughly the same time as I was diagnosed, but this is my first post Here, so I just wanted to say hello.

The first three weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, with shopping taking 4 times as long as I read every label. The diet has become less interesting, but certainly healthier. I have also forced myself to exercise every day, be it walking or swimming.

My blood glucose level was a tad high, so in the one appointment I have had with the specialist here in Toulouse, I was put on Metformine 2x500mg a day, after a week ramping up to 2x1000mg a day, and 10U of “slow” insulin a day, which I am hoping to get rid of through diet and exercise. My readings are now back down to normal levels, but this is only the start of the diabetic journey.

Things I have noticed, my sight has changed. It went a bit blurry, but is coming back to normal. Not sure if this is Insulin or Metformine related, but I can’t say I enjoyed it…
I have also lost at least 8Kg so far, so many of my clothes no longer fit me properly.
I am also getting fed up of eating salad, so will be using this site for ideas of interesting meals.

https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html This might help some with the meals, but keep in mind that cutting carbs will affect how much insulin you can take. You'll hypo fast. As for your eyesight, if your blood glucose was high, your vision was altered by the glucose in your eyeballs/tears. So with your blood sugars coming down, your vision changed too, and your brain had to learn to stop correcting for the sugar. Takes a little while. If it happens again, just grab some cheap reading glasses, those'll tide you over until things normalise.

You're off to a good start.... Just takes a little time to learn how to eat, and not be bored out of your mind. ;)

Diabetes...
I am still waiting confirmation as to what type of Diabetes I have, as the specialist is on holiday. I have done the additional blood tests as requested, so should find out on the 4th August.

I am hoping it is type 2, and I can reverse it, but I have my doubts.

An update.
Confirmation that I have type 2.
I have been told to stop the insulin injections, and stick to the Metformin treatment.

My first goal is achieved. On to the 2nd, which will be harder. Weight loss, and see if I can reverse this.

And another update.
I now run for at least 30 minutes a day. Things are going well. I saw the specialist for the last time Yesterday, who has now passed me back to my GP.

She was happy with my progress and has lowered my Metformin dosage.

The diabetes is not yet in remission, but I am slowly getting there.
