Made OH banana sandwich for lunch. The first time since diagnosis that I have really felt food envy! Nana sandwiches were a real favourite!

I'm lucky that I was never a huge fan of nanas. However, when I saw my OH biting into a huge slice of buttery white toast..... :( it was food envy with knobs on...........

Ooooh Toast I realy miss toast. I am watching a baking prog on the telly right now and it is pure hell because I love and miss toast. I could live off toast but I know that the toast would kill me eventually so I will just have to look at it from now on.

I used to love a piece of toast with butter and mashed banana on top. But I don't let myself think about toast nowadays, I've even hidden my toaster in the cupboard. :)

Well, i got up on saturday, weighed myself and low and behold, i have hit my 3 stone loss target. So feeling pleased i went downstairs and tested my bg, 4.5 so happy days all round.
As a treat and reward i had a single piece of white buttered toast with my coffee, first time i have had bread in 3 months. 2 hours later bg was at 11 and i felt bloody miserable!
Used to love bananna sarnies :(

Oh Kev it really isn't worth it! But I know how you feel, toast and a nana was a typical breakfast but it had to be whole meal bread with me, never really that keen on white bread (except for French and Italian varieties) .......oh gosh just thought of ciabatta and olive bread

Banana sandwiches are the best! If it makes you feel any better, I can't eat them either because I'm being so strict with myself on my keto diet (lost almost a stone in 3 weeks :D)

I miss melted cheese on toast with sliced tomatoes on the top :(
Last time I tried this , I ended up with 16.7 blood sugars meter reading.
Ached and felt rough for a few hours afterwards - learnt fast it is - so 'not' worth it !

This week I've been on a back to work course and I wasn't very organised where packed lunch was concerned but I took my low carb crackers and cheeses and pate with me for breakfast when I got there plus a small banana and a tangerine for snacks. Because I've been more active than usual, and wasn't having my cooked breakfast as normal, I was hungry by 12 but lunch was around 12.30 and mostly sandwiches and soup so I've eaten about 4 slices of bread in a week with no adverse effects.

But that doesn't make me want to start buying bread again for home use. I'll stick to my LCHF but at least I know if I get stuck, the odd sandwich eaten out won't do any harm. I've no desire to eat carbs unless there's no choice.

I start a training course next week for 4 weeks with a view to a job at the end of it so I'm feeling enthusiastic about that as I've been longing for a complete change of job. So I need to plan my lunches for next week, so I've already bought a slab of Polish Boczek which I can slice and take with me, and some egg mayo and cottage cheese tubs.

I've been so chuffed that I've managed to complete this 3 day course without slumping or feeling wiped out during the afternoon or at the end of the day, still had energy to go shopping afterwards! And that hasn't been like me for a looooooooong time.

So, thanks to the forum, I'm a recovering diabetic with a new lease of life.
