I have some how come down with brain fog Iv been reading everywhere about what it could be related to and I can't figure it out basically I had a high blood reading and then suddenly once I had combatted the high I felt all spacy my blood sugar wasn't low it was 6.6. So I couldn't work it out anyways its been 3 days and I'm still spaced out I'm worrying it could be some kinda brain damage from diabites or like a diabetic permanant cognitive dysfunction just wondering if anyone has suffered wth this and if so how did you get rid of it ? Really worried !!!

Hi Ryan, obviously no one can diagnose what your problem is so best bet is a visit to your GP.
If you have been running high for a long period time my guess would your body is used to running high and now you are at a lower level your body thinks you are hypo as in a false hypo.

Obviously just a guess as your information is rather lacking.

Funnily my BG this morning g was 4.5 @ 8.30, by 2 this afternoon it was 11.3. The only thing I can put it down to was 2 apricots! GI index said they were fine. I had a thick cotton, wool like head, felt very disorientated and could not really hold a conversation! I also have tingling right arm and fingers. I have a long awaited GP app on Monday and will ask him. It has been suggested that this brain fog etc could be symptomatic of a B 12 defiency which is very common in diabetics and can be prolonged. Might be worth an ask. It's us very scary! X

It is indeed scary if that was the case @CarbsRok it wouldn't last for 3 days ? It's a nightmare feeling Iv literally tried exercising drinking lots of waters my blood sugars have been running at 6 and 8 really so don't understand what is going on could it be some kinda permanant cognitive dysfunction ? ? I know there's a link in diabites Iv already been to the doctors and they can't figure it out and then I had a brain scan and that was normal ??

The brain fog is typical when your sugars run higher than they should. Once you get your BS under control, it will disappear - if indeed high BS was the cause.

Thanks @cz_dave The thing is my sugar is normal but I still feel this way you reckon it could be underlying anxiety ? Or depression ? That is causing it as I have read somewhere that it could be the case ?

Have you had a general run of blood tests done to check all organs are functioning correctly and vit levels are in range? What about your blood pressure has that been checked?

@CarbsRok indeed I have they did them at the hospital and said they were all ok my blood pressure was the average rating so nothing unusual there I find it strange that a high blood sugar reading could do something like this but maybe it's a factor of that and anxiety ? As I have had some stress lately with moving house and graduating from university but never experienced anything like this before

I hope you will soon get rid off it. I can only guess but I would attribute it to the stress. If doctors have made all the checks and have not found anything, just ignore it, it will go away. Exercise could certainly help.

I hope so do you suffer with it ? Are you aware of any diabitc Brian damage that could cause such extended symptoms ?

Lots of things can cause brain fog, Stress being the main factor, lack of sleep, smoking/alcohol, menopause, dehydration, deficient in certain vitamins (B12 as suggested by 6cats) magnesium. You are probably in a circle. You worry because of the fog (which in turn causes it) so you worry more & so it goes on. Try to relax & take some me time.

Having reread your previous posts Ryan and your history of reading google and frightening yourself half to death with imagined problems, do you think you are doing exactly the same thing again? I'm wondering if a talk with a psychiatrist would be of some benefit to you? Perhaps they would be able to alleviate your inbuilt fears about your diabetes.
