I’ve not had a sandwich for I don’t know how long. Bread of all types haven’t been on my menu in the vain attempt to help keep my numbers at a respectable level.
What can and is best to use if you just want a sandwich or even just something filling with a salad?
I’m Type 2
Thank you.
I could murder a bacon butty!!!!!

Hi, yes its difficult sometimes with bread...i allow myself the odd slice here and there...my view is that im not going to go forever without consuming some...treat yourself occasionally. ..i make mine using just one slice of bread folded....., you could try a wrap too ...slightly less carbs in them ...

At the moment I'm liking HiLo from Sainsbury's, a new one to me and I think my favourite. Another option is LivLife from Waitrose. Somebody recently found an extremely low carb bread in a Polish shop.

One slice of either is small, and about 5g carbs. Even less in the Polish case.

Also, much as I'd love to have a bacon butty, these days I'll put something like bacon eggs and mushrooms on a place and just have one slice of 'bread' with it. More volume, less carbs that way. You could always finish on a "mini" bacon butty with just one small slice of these breads. It will be about 1/7th the carbs of a bacon butty made with 2 slices of normal bread.

something filling with a salad?

If you want to abstain from bread altogether (and some people would say it isn't very filling anyway), then with a salad, not a bad option is chicken, especially fatty chicken.

I'm trying to get a taste for salads, and I find not a bad option is to get some cooked chicken thighs (specifically thighs as they have a lot more fat), tear it up, mix it around with the salad stuff, possibly even add a small amount of cashews, and put a small amount of full-fat mayonnaise on top.

That gives you a lot of fat and protein and you may find it more filling than adding a slice of bread, even one of the high protein / low carb breads people use.

Lidl roll was the answer to all your prayers. Alas, discontinued for the moment.

Agree. Alternatively you could try tinned salmon with salad - again fatty and filling and delicious mixed with mayo. Corned beef also good.

It wasn’t me that found the Polish bread, but I have saved a photo of it so I can track it down once my supplies of Lidl rolls (fair few in the freezer) run out.

Another vote for HiLo here, small slices but the most bread like low carb bread I’ve found and toasts well too :hungry:

You were keeping that quiet! I would have paid you double for them, plus postage. ;)

I am currently eating Burgen soya and linseed bread, which is more readily available in supermarkets. It is under 12g carbs per slice and the same size and thickness of ordinary bread. High in Omega 3 and calcium.

The 800g loaf has per slice
fat 4.8g of which saturates 0.7g
carbs 11.8g of which sugars 1.8g
fibre 4.3g
protein 6.7g
calcium 121mg

The 400g loaf has less of everything per slice because they are smaller sizes. (carbs 9.1g)

It spikes me more than the Lidl rolls, but now my body is used to it, it is spiking less.

Yes, definitely missed an opportunity to make a fast buck!

I used to like Vogel’s soya and linseed loaf before diagnosis - couldn’t get on with the Burgen one. While the Vogel’s doesn’t have any added sugar (Burgen does), it is 14.7g carbs per slice. Too much for me.

Just tried to Google it and chleb wysokobiałkowy means protein bread. No brand name on the packaging.
