I do not have diabetes
None, they are full of carbs and sugar, even the lowest GI of them. Have a full English instead!

surely a full english is not good for you?!!!!! I would put on weight with that. Im desperate for breakfast ideas that cut the fat, sugars and carbs.

Cereals are no good for me, i feel desperately hungry again half way through morning which makes me turn to the carbs bread, i feel my head spinning, feel sick with hunger.

A fry up is good for you! Bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms. Use olive oil or rapeseed oil for frying, and cook your mushrooms in butter if you like them that way. It will also stop you from being hungry.

Hmmm.. probably a lot less than stuff I like
You can try oatmeal porridge with a dollop of full fat yogurt. It doesn't raise my blood sugar levels and is very tasty. I cooked it in coconut milk yesterday and it was delicious.

Wish I had time to do a full English in the morning, what would anyone recommend if you HAVE to have cereal in the morning due to time constraints (I get up at 5 30 to feed and muck out our horse, then I obviously shower and need to get into work for 7-30)

I get up a tad earlier these days and cook a cheesy omelette. Only takes minutes and is low carb.

You just need to try out various cereals if that is what you want to eat. I would go for some Bran Flakes, or All Bran rather than Cornflakes. Try a small-ish portion and test your blood sugar one and two hours afterwards. If it's too high, try another cereal. If you find that none of them are right for you (that they all spike your blood) you have to find something else to eat, Perhaps prepare something the evening before and microwave it; or try Quark or yogurt with berries.

Above all, test and test again until you know what you can eat that doesn't harm you.

I'm in your situation time wise, but there is no way I would touch cereal - the effect on my blood glucose is awful.

Cook several sausages on Monday, and microwave one or two each morning when you need them.
Same with crust less quiche
Eat two slices of cheese with a slice of ham folded in the middle (this is far quicker and easier than a bowl of cereal) because you don't need a bowl, spoon or to sit down... You can even eat it while walking
Berries and yogurt (if you want the bowl experience)

I often fry leftover vegetables for breakfast, either in lard or olive oil. It doesn't take long and it's just a case or remembering to 'cook too much' the night before.

Hi,

The thing that makes you gain weight is combining carbs and fat at the same time.

So eat the egg, bacon, sausages (together or one at a time), but don't have the toast, hash browns, sugared baked beans...

There is more and more evidence emerging that the whole 'low fat eating is healthy and avoid saturated fat like it is poison' was based on faulty science. For the 50 years that low fat, high carbohydrate has been promoted, the amount of obesity and heart disease has steadily increased. And people eating lower carbs and higher fat are finding improved blood glucose levels, less inflammation and improved cholesterol.

Don't take my word for it - there is masses of info appearing in the media and on the internet - it has even reached the cover of Time magazine - so it is reaching mainstream thinking, fast.

Go and have a look at www.dietdoctor.com
It really works! Look at my signature. I was exactly like you but a member of this forum referred me here and I have never looked back! The guy who writes the blogg is a Swedish doc who specialises in diabetes and obesity. Try it for a month and tell me your bs doesn't improve and that you haven't lost weight and that you are still hungry! I dare you! :)

Can you not have porridge oats or muesli ? I often have muesli when I am in a rush as rolled oats are supposed to be just as good are they not? Always the Alpen one with no added sugar. I checked it had the lowest sugar grams than the other makes. .I have that with semi skimmed milk and then i have a protein shake after which sees me through to lunch. If I ate sausages bacon etc I would be too full to go swimming before work ,, besides I have high cholesterol so I try to avoid that stuff. Being from the west coast of Scotland I inherited that as well :)

If you are up early and busy in the morning, try a full fat greek yoghurt, some are as low as 5g carb, with some fresh berries or you could try an apple if you are ok with them. Then take a handful of almonds and a couple of babybells with you to work for mid-morning snack. Personally I would steer clear of anything with grains, I think most people find all cereals difficult to handle, but you can try out the different ones, but do test, I would be inclined to do a +30 mins, +1hr and a +1.5hrs for the first time on any meal, that way you know exactly what it is doing. Certainly if you go above 7.8mmol/l on any occasion then its not good, so you can then tweek your diet accordingly.

I'm not totally convinced by that. Nice to think whilst munching on a fry up but nah I just cant see that as healthy everyday as they must be high in saturates,, look at countries like USA who eat a lot of fatty foods and same in West Scotland where we will fry just about anything,, all struggling with heart probs and obesity.

Besides fat makes you fat,,esp around the middle,, I have got myself back to a 32" waist and its my goal to try and get down to about 10% body fat ,,I dont think I will get that from eating fry ups,,,, wish ye could tho lol :)
