@hillsrocket7 Are you pregnant?

I like berries and natural yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms. Not all of them at the same time but yesterday I had 2 boiled eggs, 1 sausage and 1 grilled tomato. This morning I had a bit of yogurt over some strawberries. I can't eat cereal without my blood sugar shooting up. I don't eat bread very often but I keep I loaf of weight watchers brown bread in the freezer, is very small slices and thin to so not many carbs, so I will have just one slice with peanut butter or maybe fried mushrooms on it. I've not been diabetic very long (not quite 3 months) so I'm sure some of the others have more ideas xxx

No I'm not my son is 12 and I had GD when I was pregnant with him but my blood sugar went back to normal. Found out I had type 2 almost 3 months ago, I'm due my 3 month review on Monday xxx

Ok :) Sorry you've now developed Type 2.

I am moving these last few posts to a new thread as @hillsrocket7 has not confirmed they are pregnant. This section is purely for ladies with Gestational Diabetes (who can also use the Pregnancy section, of course) as advice during pregnancy will be different.

Hi and welcome @hillsrocket7 :)

My breakfasts range from

coffee with cream to a Full English, via:
ham and cheese
low carb cinnamon crunch breakfast cereal
leftovers from the night before
scrambled egg
sausages
shakshuka eggs

Many people find that LivLife, Burgen or Lidl high protein rolls have much lower impact on blood glucose than ordinary bread, even wholemeal or granary.

Reaction to bread also varies with what you put on it. Adding plenty of butter or peanut butter, and avoiding jam or sweet spreads can make a huge difference.

I thought some carbohydrates were vital for Diabetics!

I have a cup of unsweetened cocoa made with semi skimmed milk and organic cocoa powder. I also have two oatcakes and yes my reading two hours after is high. I also repeated this for lunch yesterday and the reading was even higher!

There are many wonderful breads to try. Linseed, wholewheat, rye, millet ..... You want ones free from "junk" like additives

Why?

I suppose you could say that veg contain carbs, and therefore vegetable carbs are vital. But grains and starchy root veg are not 'vital'. There are no nutrients in grains and starchy veg that are not found in proteins, fats and non-starchy veg (usually in larger quantities). Bread is usually so nutrient poor that they add nutients to the mix.

The idea that diabetics (especially T2s) should constantly munch on carbohydrates 'for energy' is a nonsense, and often contributes to malnutrition (excessive carb consumption actually leaches some nutrients from our systems, and blocks others from being absorbed). Far better to eat more veg, filled with vitamins and minerals, rather than driving up blood glucose with starch and sugar.

Your profile says you're on insulin. If that's correct, you may have been told to eat a certain amount of carbs. Check with your doctor or nurse before making any changes.

I thought no carbohydrates meant you are prone to developing the condition beginning with "K ..... " Are you suggesting I cut out the miserable two oatcakes I have per meal? No! lol

(I am talking anyway about quality home/freshly baked bread together with some fat and protein)

If you're on insulin, don't make any changes to the carbs in your diet without speaking to your doctor or nurse as it will affect your insulin needs and could cause hypoglycaemia.

:)

People on insulin can usually adjust their insulin to suit whatever amount of carbs they eat - which means they can do what they like.

Those of us not on insulin (or other strong blood glucose reducing meds) often choose to tailor our carb intake to suit our bodies.

Did you mean Ketosis? Or Ketoacidosis?

I aim for the lowest carbs I can and live happily and healthily in Ketosis (actually feel much better than when not in ketosis), so for me, a couple of portions of oatcakes a day would make me feel significantly less well.

:)

Hopefully the OP will return and tell us a little more information.

@hillsrocket7 If younare, in fact, pregnant and have Gestational,Diabetes, your post and related posts can be moved back to the GD section :)

Please tell us a little more and then you will get suggestions most appropriate to you :)

This thread seems to have gone off topic. Please can others start their own threads if they have questions.
