Breakfast

I make an omelette in the time it take me to make a cup of tea. I have mushrooms ready prepped in a bowl in the fridge and so all I have to do in the mornings is throw the eggs in the pan and add the mushrooms. Simples!
I do an omelette as well. Electric cooker so switch on, start ironing my shirt while kettle is on, then beat up a couple of eggs, grate some cheese and chuck in the (non stick) pan while I make the tea. Shirt ironed, tea made and omelette ready in minutes!

Oer...spinach with cinnamon and apple? I'd have to be digging the bottom of the barrel, and actually I am not personally far off that when it comes to breakfasts.
Never been an 'as soon as I get up' breakfast type of person.

I am running into difficulties. I am trying to keep to a low protein diet for my kidney so if I had protein for breakfast it makes lunch and dinner more difficult protein wise. I have read so many times how processed meat is a terrible thing health wise and I am sticking with that, so that's pieces of ham out for me. ( It's salty too as is bacon which is bad for my kidney)

Yoghurt? I have bought three pots of the Fage total yoghurt and thrown 75% of them away each time as they lay heavy on me and I don't think my acid likes them. Really missing yoghurt. I was an Activia girl! For some reason, I don't seem to tolerate berries very well. So that's the yoghurt with a handful of berries out!

Fry up? Eggs? Bacon? = a lot of protein for me so early in the day.

I was having a slice of Burgen (buttered) with peanut butter or cream cheese ( still protein but not first class protein I think), every morning but my 2 hr BG has risen slightly over the weeks I have been doing that so I replaced it with Livlife toast which is slightly better. Then I got fed up with that every morning and seriously started to scratch my head. I have decided I really don't like oatbran with nothing sweet in it and I don't like huge rolled oats.

The last week I have been having a Finn crispbread with cottage cheese or just plain buttered with a small pice of cheese or Babybel. Trouble is, it does nothing for my energy levels and I am ready for lunch by 10.30!

Any more ideas?? :)
Hello, I read your post and understood your breakfast problems. May I suggest a few things to see if they are any help to you. What about a lightly toasted bagel with some light philly cheese on? or Rachels vanilla yoghurt ( fav, it's live and tastety), with either stewed eating apples in (warm if liked) or some banana (not yet ripe less sugar in it) in the yoghurt. Another brand of live yoghurt which I find delicious is Longley Farm, it is live with just added raw cane sugar and the chosen fruit, my best fav is the hazelnut one, filling and then watch for bs levels, A sliced meat from m&s is pressed brisket(if they still do it, I found this to be taesty, and no overly salty). I hope you find something that meets your needs, keep letting us know, ttfn

Thanks for the tips :) Must look these yoghurts up. I thought most yoghurts had added sugar.

Hello SJC, I think all foods have to be checked out for their reactions to each persons bs levels and personal taste. The yoghurts I have mentioned, are what I have found to be the better ones to give good levels of protein, and the benefits of the live cultures in them. I do not find them overley sweet, and really enjoy them as a food within my daily choices, I use yoghurt as a small meal, with a cup of tea (skimmed milk and sweetener).
I have also found them to keep me level during the night, and wake to a good reading of 5.6 to 6.5,and I have found that if they have too much sugar in them, I have to wee more than I would like.
I did a comparison with the other large pot yoghurts and found that the Rachels was lower in suger,(compared to Yeo Valley and Onken brands, vanilla flavour) tasted better and gave me better benefits of the cultures in them, this is my personal choice.
The Longley Farm yoghurts are in 150g (ml?) pots, and the Rachels in the 250ml pots.
I hope this helps you find something really enkoyable for your breakfast, ttfn

Thanks. :) It seems Fage Total full fat yoghurt is much lower in sugar than all of them so I think I will have another go at that. Just hope it doesn't affect my acid reflux. I got some strawberries in this week and although I am not a huge fan I am going to try one or two chopped up in the yoghurt for breakfast.

Yes i have been having the Soya yoghurt with Blueberries for about a month now and i love it. It has a lovely creamy taste. And yes it is low carb.

I have the Fage Total full fat natural and it is delicious with some berries thrown in. No added sugars and full of goodness. The flavoured yogurts all have added sugar, as do the low fat ones, so be careful.

Lidl frozen berries taken out the night before with onken plain yogurt (or cream).
Quick and easy and mine generally works out at 9g carbs. Mind you I don't have much. This week going to start putting ground flaxseed on too or chia seeds.

Loving life

Have tried the Fage yoghurt & do like it, feel really full, so good for breakfast. Just thought the Alpro soya natural one may be better again?? As low carb-2.3 & the same fat I think? So which is better?

Or bacon and eggs?

Hello I have tried the Farge Greek yoghurt and yes like this as well, I had forgotten about it when I last posted, thanks for reminding me. I have been on the Danone Live site abd get a Coupon for savings on their range, as special treat, they even have the Okyos range with money off, these little treats give me a boost when totally fed up with watching the carbs, well keep well and going forward ttfn

Or bacon and eggs?

Yes, bacon. Yum. It can be precooked on the weekend ( whole package). Placed in a freezer bag in the freezer, and it's good for weeks. Hard boiled eggs, left in the shell in the fridge. Most mornings I don't have time to cook or eat. I'm spending most of the time getting the kids out the door.

I started grabbing 2 hard boiled eggs and 3 or 4 strips of bacon, in a zipp sandwich bag, an off to work, and a slice of cheese. Work is only 20-25 minutes away, and the bacon is totally thawed when I get there. I usually have breakfast at work. Threw out or gifted away all my cereal that used to stock my desk.

You know what is absolutely heavenly for breakfast? Pan fried shrimp in lots of butter, remove shrimp when they are done, leave the butter of course and fold in a few beaten eggs. When the eggs a closer to being done, fold in the shrimp and continue till done. Add your favourite spices during or after cooking.

Haven't made this in years, as it was joked as being a heart attack in a pan. It's going to make a lovely Sunday morning breakie tomorrow morning. :-)

I'm salivating at that recipe.

Marvellous.

Never had prawns with egg.

Will do soon!

I made this last weekend, both my kids absolutely loved it. It might become a Sunday routine around here. In the past my wife would rain down on me for the amount fat in the dish. Last weekend she never said a thing. In fact I've seen her google lchf and I noticed she's not eating much bread anymore.

I've dropped 20lbs in 4 weeks, my BS has gone from high 8 average to a mid 5 in that time, and the belt I used to hold up my pants is out of holes, as I moved 2 holes in during the last 4 weeks. I started changing my diet right after I was diagnosed in early June, but the biggest positive gain was going lchf around 3 weeks ago. My 1st dietitian appointment is mid-September. I think it's going to be interesting. Probably best to just keep quiet and nod lots.

I am going to get make to having a better breakfast, and I will look up the Newcastle Diet, to see if it will be good for me to have as a main diet plan, I had weetabix as a kid , cannot face it now, and the only cornflakes I enjoy are the crunchy nut variety, which are not good for a T2. Well keep posting and ttfn

Oh my goodness, you've got me drooling here. Do you use fresh shrimp or can you use frozen ones?
