Hi, new to all this! I wake up and test my blood and it is usally around 6, I have museli with milk and chopped banana and take my metaformin - 2hours later it has gone to 10! Does this mean the museli, which is homemade, oats and some raisins, is not a good breakfast for me? I like this, porridge or weetabix! I thought it was a good choice!

Some folk can manage porridge, other can't. None of those ingredients agree with my BS. The banana especially. It is probably the fruit with highest concentrations of fructose. Berries are the lowest.
The breakfasts that have the least impact for me are

1. Nothing
2. Kippers
3. Fried Bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomato
4. Full fat natural yoghurt

Your readings answer that question for you quite neatly.
Most of what are now considered "breakfast" foods are high carbohydrate and probably best avoided by most Type 2's.
Eggs and bacon are far better for you and won't spike your blood sugar.
Or alternatively skip breakfast entirely and don't eat until lunchtime extending your overnight fast thus giving your body a chance to recover from the previous day's food intake.

Thanks, I have to have something I can eat at work as I start at 07;45, hence the porridge. Are there any good cereals?

None that I know of.
Do you have a fridge at work? If you do, might be worth getting some blueberries and natural (or natural greek) yoghurts in.

I thought i needed breakfast, but that seems to be a marketing thing. Most days I don't bother, and I am no more hungry for it.

Edit: Tagging @daisy1 who will post some excellent info for you

Yes, so plain natural yoghurts?

Yes, and noyt the low-fat ones. If you have a moment in the supermarket aisles, pick up a low fat and full fat natural yoghurt of the same brand, turn to the panel on the back with the nutritional info. You will see in the panel "Carbohydrates xgrams of which Sugar y grams per 100ml"

The low fat version will have more sugar that the full fat one

Your breakfast (assuming small to medium portions) has 60-70g of carbs, which your figures suggest is way too much. Try to keep each meal to 20-30g of carbs, or lower if you can, though 20-30 per meal is a good start.
1. Yoghurt & berries with some chopped nuts and seeds would work
2. Cheese, ham and tomatoes
3. Ryvita with avocado & prawns

Much easier when at home as others have said, kippers, bacon & eggs etc. etc.

If you need something really easy then Lidl do a nice protein roll which many of us can tolerate. Its very bread like and is in the fresh rolls baskets. My husband (whose not diabetic) enjoyed eating mine so much that he now chooses to take them every day for work. You could put any low carb filling in that you like - maybe ham, peanut butter, cheese or egg - but not all at the same time ;). If you have access to a toaster at work they are also very nice sliced down the middle and toasted.

The other thing that can be nice for breakfast is cold sausages and cold hard boiled eggs with a dollop of decent mayo.
