That's a very big drop but walking does help bring levels down as the muscles utilize the glucose for energy. How long after breakfast was your 12,5?

This is yesterday. Today i had 4 slices of wholemeal bread. Fasting reading 6, after breakfast 9.5. I again walked and then its down to 5.8.

It's possible ... mine drop as well following exercise and fairly quickly. Even 10 minutes walking can drop me by a big amount, but certainly not to that degree. They are big spikes followed by even bigger drops.

You might need to change / revise that diet to avoid those big changes.

Mike

Walking after one hour rather than two may also be worth trying to try and get peak down earlier.

Thanks fellows. I have just been diagnosed 20 days ago. I deliberately waited for 2 hours to see the effect of different food on me. My reading on day of my diagnosis was 24. I am doing well now by keeping between 5-7. Also i was able to walk today after morning being weekend otherwise i only do evenings.
Rolled oats were not that bad, but yesterday was quite a surprise. Being a vegetarian i have less options.

You are new to this and you are spiking so it may be a good idea for you to do testing on waking, at one hour and then at two hours after meals.

If you were at 12.5 @ 2 hours AFTER that breakfast, your one hour reading could well have been even higher.

Come back to us if you need to. Mike

Thanks MikeD
No worries at all. You MUST be in control of this and readings (until you work it all out with advice on here) are important pre breakfast / lunch / dinner and at the one hour and two hour points TOGETHER with a list of what you ate.

it'll be fine ... work with us and we'll help

8.9 is (arguably) too high but this is but one sample. Your 2 hour is pretty good. We need a broader sample of your overall diet and you readings to let you know more.

I can virtually guarantee you this ... that bread may not be doing you any favours. Please keep us all posted.

Mike :)

Hi
I suggest you aim for a rise of not more than 2mmol so if you are 5 before breakfast 2 hours after if its mpre than 7 its high. I aim for below 2mmol rise.

Fasting reading 5.8
Breakfast wholegrain toast with avocado and some green salad.
1 hour 8.7
2 hours 6.5
Is it ok?
My doctor actually ask me to target 2 hours reading to keep below 8. Is one hour high reading is a worry?

In my opinion it isn't ok. You may want to review some of the medical studies discussed here: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14045678.php

Why not skip the toast and have eggs instead? Or something low carb?

Suggest you drop the toast and substitute something else ... but you're awfully close to good results.

BTW, I'm in Melbourne and worked in the airlines for 40 years :)
