Bringing high bs down quickly?

I had a small amount of pasta tonight. 1 hour later my bs was 11, 2 hours later 9.7, 3 hours later (just now) its still 9.1

Its the highest I have had since I started testing. Are there any ways to bring down my bs quickly when a spike like this happens?

I will be avoiding pasta, even 2 tablespoons of it like tonight, in future.
 
for me, 20/30 minutes on the crosstrainer brings me down about 4 points. Maybe you could try a brisk walk?

but seriously, exercise or fast acting insulin are the only ways I know.
 
Strenuous exercise... or drugs, I know of no other way....
I go for a bike ride for at least a couple of miles and that helps a few points... cross-trainer set to hard for at least ten minutes... these efforts seem to reduce the insulin resistance that is Type 2.
But do not worry too much - it is part of the learning so next time halve the amount and remeasure. This way is how you establish what your body can take OK... not what the text book says.
I have long felt it is cruel that while we can eat something to get out BS up there is little to do to get it down... and imho it is the spikes that cause the complications.

I concur. Quite a bit of water and some exercise, and a note to self, DON'T EAT PASTA :lol:
 
Thanks. I live in the centre of a city so a walk after dark is not a good idea. i will drink the water and have a brisk walk up and down the stairs for a bit.

And no more pasta!!!!!!
 
You could do it the bad way like I do Lucy and have a gin and tonic or similar. Best to do that at the point you eat I think as it seems to confuse the hell out of your liver and stops it dumping glucose into the blood stream. Apparently because alcohol is poisonous your liver will deal with that first and ignore the food or so I've been told, anyway its something like that. On the few occasions I've tried the feory out its worked brilliantly, chocolate cake, freshly made thick slices of white bread swatted away with ease. Obviously not an everyday thing but its useful if you want to go out once in a while and let your hair down. I tend to find my BG's are a bit higher the next day but nothing major and certainly always well below safety.

Unfortunately I am allergic to alcohol. If I have more than a sip or two I get dizzy and throw up :sick:

What a shame! Good luck with the banana dancing I think that would make me get dizzy and throw up :lol:
 
Will you lot please leave my poor little innocent banana alone please. He tells me he is getting a complex :!: :lol:
 
The end of the diet seems a looooooooong way of yet. My poor banana is likely to be mouldy by then
 
Hi Luckylocket61. I note your last Hba1c was quite high? I suspect you may need to start some medication if diet only isn't working. Discuss with your HCP about going onto Metformin. None of us like having to have meds but it's better than having too many spikes. If you are an overweight T2 then Metformin should help. If not overweight then there are other med options such as the ones I'm on.
 
I've found chilled water will bring my BGLs down quickly... room temp water not so fast.
