Hi folks I've not been on for a long time.

I have a big bruises under my big toe nail it takes up half the side of the nail. Ive had no injury at all and it's been there for months now and it's not getting smaller, fading or growing out with the nail and I'm not sure if it can be caused by diabetes. My diabetes is poorly controlled so trying different treatments, I'm on metformin 4 x 500mg slow release (2 bi-daily) and a long lasting insulin and a quick lasting insulin and it's finally starting to get better.

Can anyone tell me if my toenail is connected to my diabetes? Thanks

Hi @nok1888

Nobody here can guess what’s happening with your toe or what is causing it, even if we could it’s against forum rules to offer a diagnosis, it may or may not be connected to your diabetes. It’s best to get in touch with your GP surgery so they can take a look at it and decide what the best course of action is. You can also self refer to a podiatrist but you could wait a while for an appointment

As diabetics we need to take really good care of our feet so myself personally I wouldn’t delay in seeking medical advice from my GP surgery

As above - I'd strongly recommend having someone who knows what they're doing take a look at it.

While my BGs were high I bruised really easily. High blood glucose stops blood coagulating quickly. No idea whether that's what's happening with you.
