Diet only
Diagnosed August 2017. Been controlling with low carb diet. Felt unwell last week and found BS had dropped to under 4. I’d had lunch so no reason. Can anyone explain?

Always carry some glucose tablets or the odd boiled sweet for such episodes if you feel like that again

According to your profile you are diet controlled, no medication.

"Under 4" ... exactly what were they?

What happened next? Did you eat/drink anything to raise your levels, or did they rise on their own?

For non-diabetics it's normal to go as low as 3.5 or so. They might feel queezy, but they'll be alright as their liver will dump some glucose. The threshold for hypo is 4 to be on the safe side for people on glucose-lowering medication.

Sounds like your low carb diet is working well...

3.5 yes so ate and tested 15 mins later and bs had raised. I knew something was wrong which is why I tested.

If it continues go to see your GP.
It happened again the day after. Saw GP who said eat more carbs (you have to laugh). I’m at diabetic clinic next week so I’ve done a dairy of food and close monitoring

I suspect nothing was wrong at all...your body is getting used to your diet which is evidently working well. You might not be used to such low levels (eg. low 4s to high 3s) and some can feel a bit light headed as they reduce carbs initially. I am no medical expert, but I would not jump to the conclusions that it's a hypo. Still, keep an eye on the level. Good luck.

How many carbs do you have in a day? Do you keep a food diary that might help your medical team figure this out with you.

The liver should increase levels to stop you going too low. Mine does when I hit the low 4's normally pre dinner.

Some people do naturally run lower blood sugars. I think @DCUKMod is one.

I had similar episodes, but fond that I needed to eat earlier - I now eat almost 12 hours apart some days.
If I fast, my levels drop after my first meal, usually mid afternoon. I used to get the same thing as a teenager when I ate at mid day and on getting home from school. Maybe try various strategies - though it might be down to the bread for lunch, causing a rise and plunge in BG - it might be the speed, or an over reaction to a high carb food.
