Hello again, I have a question regarding Blood sugar numbers. I just started testing today and not really sure what I am doing or what is good, bad or ok ish.
Tested for the first time this morning before eating ( about 10.30) reading was 12.1. High I know.
Tested again 2 hours after brunch which was scrambled egg, smoked salmon and avacado and it was 9.1
Tested again 2 hours after a sort of lunch of a handful of walnuts and it was 8.0
Tested again after supper tonight of homemade chicken curry with cauliflower rice on a small plate and it was back up to 12.0

Not sure what is going on there?
Also, how long would it take on a low carb woe to see numbers start to come down.
I have an appointment to see the diabetic specialist doctor at our practice on Friday and I’m pretty sure it’s going to involve yet more meds....... I really don’t want that but I don’t want high blood sugars either as I already had a heart attack

Just to ad that Low carb would not be totally new to me as I have followed a med diet for a while now.

thank you.

If you are on statins, they will raise your BS.

Your post meal numbers are not useful unless you have a done a pre meal test to compare it with. You are looking for your 2 hour post meal reading to not be more than 2 mmol/l higher than the test taken immediately before you start eating, but also not to exceed 8.5mmol/l (or some prefer 7.8mmol/l).
Please remember it’s a marathon not a sprint, your numbers will reduce gradually as you continue to eat low carb menus.

Yesterday my pre meal was 5.7 and post was 8.3. I had eaten some kiwis as a dessert as they are listed as low carb. Won’t be eating them again.

Everyone reacts differently to to others, Kiwi is approx 10g carbs (6 of which pure sugars) , depends on what you were before you ate, what else you ate and total carb intake.

You need pre meal measurement, 1hour post (no more than 2 rise) then 2 hours measurement. You can then assess what foods do what :)

I am two months in now and test once a week three weeks of the month, the other four times a day, for control levels and when I have new foods, as I now eat the same things more or less all the time, and slowly adding new things / trying new things as I go along lol.

Had a 2 slices of dominoes pizza with salad this week. 5.4 Pre, | 6.9 - 1 Hour | 6.1 - 2 hour, all about learning, my reaction foods come from Potaoes/Chips and anything that has MSG in, Chinese/Indian ect.

Allegedly.

I take Rosuvastatin (Crestor) and my bgl's are ok...

Well my glucose levels definitely came down when I stopped taking mine. I think in retropspect, their (I believe unnecessary) use was in part to blame for my diabetes.

I was already diagnosed as diabetic before I started on statins, I was in hospital with a heart problem and the cardiologist put me on them plus an assortment of other medication.
