thank you kezzer

i was naughty and had a packet of crisps
Sorry to say this but.... you have just been in hospital for high bg. It's still high and you have crisps. Why ?. I do not understand how you have them in the house let alone eat them.. I don't want to seem harsh but only you can help yourself.

The same thought occurred to me. I allow myself about 4 out of hubby's bag when we go out for a picnic lunch and that's only a recent thing since losing a lot of weight. I don't think I had a big treat for 5 months after diagnosis I was that scared.
I think you have to accept that even if you're not low carbing that crisps and the like aren't on the radar , especially when your sugar levels are erratic and you are overweight. Don't sabotage your successes, Ally - only you can make things better for yourself.

@alliebee please could u tell me how u do yr leek and cauliflower soup with Brie. Chunky or blended and what else? Love soup in winter and looking for low carby ones. Thanks

Last night I tested and I was 6.7, after that test I ate a small handful of blue berries and walnuts

I was up early this morning (4.30am) and had my normal breakfast 40gr of muesli (no added salt or sugar)

For lunch (1pm), I had two slices of Burgen Bread (Soya and linseed) and three slice of garlic sausage

I tested myself before dinner and I was 6.4, two hours after dinner (two fish portions, peppers, onion, mushrooms and garlic and covered with passata and baked in the oven) I am 6.5

Unless the garlic sausage is the culprit why would my pre dinner test be 6.4?

Felling a little miffed and confused

Do you test when you wake or before breakfast or after breakfast. You don't say. ??. Just wondering because muesli would put my by tanto orbitq
Do you test at or after breakfast. You don't say. ?.. Just wondered because muesli, even no sugar type would put my by into high earth orbit for the day.

Sorry for the double post. Tablet software downgrade issues. . Why can't software engineers get it right. ?. If they were engineering a train people would die !

Lunch 4.1 2hrs 4.8 Warm Piri Piri Mackeral on 2 Ryvta coated Philidephia Cream cheese 1 Tomatoe, 6/8 Olives, Small Hellemans
Dinner 4.3 2hrs 5.0 Left Over Chicken Curry (Home Made), inc Peppers Mushrooms & Peas. fried onions & tomatoe base. Cauliflower, Brocall & Pac Choy plus greek style yogurt Tesco Finest,' it were bloody lovely' forgot 2 glasses merlot, then brisk mile walk........

Will take BS again at midnight before bed.

I am only testing before and after dinner (tea) at present for a couple of reason, A) a shortage of lancets for my tester (only got it Monday) never thought to order refills and messed up one of the lancet cartridges so only have one cartridge (waiting for replacements to be delivered) and B) I don't have an alternative for breakfast at the moment but I have the same breakfast Monday to Friday.

During the week I could not face up to cooking breakfast before going to work, I am looking at alternatives but I have not found anything (I hate yoghurt and porridge).

At the moment I am looking at either the Burgen bread or Garlic sausage

Hi. I sautee 2 large leeks in a knob of butter till soft add chicken stock and cauliflower and cook till all veggies are soft them stick blend until smooth. Add salt n pepper and pour in some double cream. Yummy. Best soup I've made and next to no carbs. I sometimes add a handfull of kale

Are you changing your lancets after each test? I know this is what the manufacturers advise, but they need to sell more. Very few of us on the forum do this. I only change mine when it gets blunt and stops drawing blood or hurts. Providing you keep your fingers clean there is little threat of infection.

Unless you test more (before and 2 hours after a meal) you won't be able to learn which foods are good or bad for you. It will be meaningless.

The Burgen bread still has carbs (12g per slice I believe, it will say on the packet). Try one slice next time. Unless you buy high meat content sausages they will spike as they are also full of carbs. You can buy high meat, low carb sausages. I buy Black Farmers from the supermarket (90% pork), which have 1 carb per sausage and are delicious.

nuthead, you are so right to mention why i had the crisps in the house, i only have myself to blame and had the courage to post saying i had them

Dear @ally1

We can offer all the support in the world but at the end of the day only you can take ownership of the responsibility of looking after your health.

Nobody on this forum can police you, or tell you off, or control what you chose to eat or not.

To be honest if giving in to temptation and having that packet of crisps is a crime, it is only a crime against yourself, nobody else.
You have made wonderful progress to bring your levels down as much as you have but you are not really down to "safe" levels yet, so you can not afford to let your guard down. Especially not when you had to spent a day in the hospital last week, with high sugar levels for which no one was able to give you a reason.
You are right that posting about it on this site was both honest and brave. I like to think that it represented an acknowledgement to yourself of your mistake.
At the end of the day as you are the only person responsible for looking after your condition, you are also the only person you are really accountable to.

What we think or say is of little relevance.

What really matters is what you think about the choices that you make.

If there is one thing that our glucose meters do is that they give us immediate feedback on the direct consequences on our sugar levels of the different choices that we make.

Unfortunately, what they do not show us is the long term consequences, the damage that is done to our bodies by the high sugar levels.

What is done is done. Only you can decide if it was a mistake or not. If it was learn from it and move on all the wiser for it.

All the best

Pavlos

Cheers Bluetit, my brother (he is type 2 as well) had already told me about the lancet use, but when I loaded the cartridge I played with it and wound it on with out using them .....not realising so I lost 5 of the 6 lancets.

I am going to try the bread again lunch time but with a different filling (not sure what yet) so will see how it goes

Hi Ally,

Do you like nuts - such as peanuts - perhaps this would be a good alternative to have in the house to crisps. It's very hard to kill the old habits of snacking on things like crisps and biscuits. My home is not my own so there is always bad stuff lying around calling to me and shouting eat me, eat me... so what I've done to combat my head cravings and what works for me (most of the time) is to buy my own stuff of healthy naughty things, ie I always have salted peanuts and cashews, or shelled peanuts in the house, I buy 9bars because they are yummy and don't spike me BS too much and I always keep some kind of berries either in the fridge or freezer, plus double cream.. that way when my head needs a munch - I am munching on good things and not bad things. Obviously you have to limit the quantity if you want to loose weight, but right now while I come to terms with what my head wants and what I know is good for me, I am not worrying too much about the weight loss. Once I am more of an expert - and I've trained my head - I'll reduce the calories and be more careful.

All of us cope with this horrible illness in different ways.. I for one will always cheat from time to time (chips are my weakness) so I've made a pact with myself.. as long as I am good 90% of the time and do my little bit of exercise, when I meet up with my sister for our bi-weekly catch up and Bingo, I can have that bowl of chips in the Bingo hall.

No one likes to feel deprived of the things they enjoy eating - so maybe if Crisps are your weakness - you could make a pact with yourself that you will only eat them as long as you go for a short walk afterwards, that way you are equaling out the bad with some good.
