BS readings

I wish I could blame my current readings on a cold.

I've had an awful afternoon at the Health Centre. My routine health check with a brand new Health Care Assistant turned from bad to worse. She weighed me and said I am 53kg. I couldn't argue because I don't do metric. Back home I checked and I am actually 58kg and this matters because I am already too thin. She then measured my height. I seem to have lost an inch since January. Does diabetes make you shrink? :arghh: Then she took my BP and it was 140 something over 80. I said never in this world. So she did it again and I was back to normal. The cuff wasn't tight enough and actually slipped down my arm at one point. Then she took my blood. She tried 3 times in 3 veins. Not a drop. This has never happened before in my entire life. So she sent me down to the Treatment Room so a nurse could do it. I had to wait an hour, sat there in an empty waiting room. Goodness knows why. Eventually a nurse came. She got 3 phials full straight away. Then I had to queue up at reception to make an appointment with my DN for my review. First appointment was 31st December, my birthday, so I declined. Next appointment 6th January. I did ask if I could have my results over the phone and was assured I could.

All this time I was fasting because of the cholesterol test. I last ate about 9am. It was 4-30pm when I got home.

So ...... what does Bluetit do? She has fish and chips for tea. And Bluetit is now paying for it. I shot up to mid 7's at 1hr and am still there at 3 hours.:(

Thank you.

I am sure I'll be fine.

Can't let a mere cold get me down. I've got bigger enemies to fight!

Intend to milk it for some extra TLC from the wife though. Breakfast in bed tomorrow morning maybe... :)

Funny how my elevated levels indicated something was up before I was actually showing any symptoms though!

Keep well Pavlos :)

Keep well Pavlos :)
Thanks Mike.

Already feeling much better and wishing I had not mentioned the cold on the forum.

It seems so insignificant now, I only mentioned it in the first place to explain away some higher than normal readings earlier today.

Everybody is being so nice about it that I am already feeling a bit guilty that I don't actually feel more ill so as to deserve all the attention and goodwill. :-)

Sometimes you get back what you give mate :)

I had a shocking cold back in July and the doctor was right on to it and prescribed me some MOXIRYCIN tablets which didn't conflict with the Metformin :)

One must remember to think what one is eating, just because it said fish does not mean it is just fish....................................I had fish cakes for tea forgeting the other main ingredient is potato, pre dinner 5.7, 2hrs after 13.8 :arghh:

Yesterday
5.3 fasting
5.5 pre dinner
5.3 post dinner
5.1 bedtime
Had a day of moving the living room round on a whim while preparing for the tree to go up! Early this year, just got the urge!

@Bluetit1802 - I'm assuming you weren't self testing along the day, through the day? It would have been interesting to see where your bloods went under those extreme fasting conditions. There was probably some liver action in there somewhere, but you probably had some lows, which may have impacted on you handling the F&C.

I must admit I have converted to weighing in KG for everything, including me. My digital scales weigh to 0.1kg, whereas in imperial only to full lbs, so I think I get a crisper measurement. Obviously, that doesn't necessarily make it more accurate, but if I allow myself +/-2kg flexibility, it feels "tighter" than talking about a half stone. Sometimes our minds play cruel tricks on us!

I hope you have the HCA's name, for future avoidance purposes?

I did do some random tests during my day time fast, which weren't too horrendous. I went up from 5.5 to 6.2, and was back down to 5.3 before my tea, which is higher than normal at that time of day, normally high 4's. I expected the spike after the fish and chips, but didn't expect it to last all evening! That was very odd for me. Yes, I do have her name, and no, I will not be seeing her again. Sadly, my husband has his routine tests with the same woman on Friday. Maybe he will have more luck.

My digital scales are not metric, but do give pounds with decimal places.

I wonder if mine do that.....................

Oh well. I'm used to metric now, and 50kg is a nice round core figure (even if I'm not at all around!),
