BS readings

5.7 this morning
6.6 post breakfast which is high for me
5.6 pre lunch
6.2 post lunch again bit high but I had a piece of chocolate between eating lunch and testing so might be that- and the pate was higher carbs than I thought.
I have a nasty sore throat again and feel really rough so maybe it's that - I decided not take my Metformin today and for next few days to see if I feel better as about two hours after taking it I feel really ill. Was ok on two but then GP said try 4, got up to three but felt so nauseous never pushed for the 4- now I have lost over 4st I think even the two is too much.
Took it at 2 1/2 hrs and back to 5.1, phew.

Been in the 5's all day and 4.3 before my tea. Day 4 of being back on metformin and sadly it's making me feel awful. So waiting to hear back from my doc, I'm going to ask for SR. See if that helps.

Ethyl if you're not already on the slow release metformin, you could ask your gp to swap you onto this one. It's gentler on the stomach, therefore shouldnt cause nausea.

Also take your metformin with food, preferably in the middle of your meal, again this should ease the nausea.

I agree 4 tablets does seem too many considering you've lost so much weight. I'd have a chat with the gp again and explain your nausea symptoms.

If you have any dried or fresh thyme at home, steep some in hot water, strain and use this as throat gargle... This always works for me .... Or salt water gargle.

Hope you feel better really soon x

thanks. I will have to see what I can wangle out of the GP- our practice has no dedicated DN now as far as I can see and the nurse I saw about my flu jab was a harridan so I won't see her again. TBH I want to see how I get on without it - I'm hoping if I get some out of my system I can just manage on one or two which I had no problems with.

I'm surprised the gp wants you to go up to 4!!! You blood sugars are great and together with the weight loss, you'd think they'd be decreasing your meds not increasing to the maximum dose!

I think it's because I was so overweight at diagnosis - and also because they don't do many face to face appointments now so it was a case of phone call with results and by the way go up to 4 and comeback in 6 months. I don't think it is his field either as his additional qualifications are in tropical medicine. Perhaps if I contract malaria...

Oh dear! We both seem to have similar gp practices.

8.1 before breakfast
8.1 after

6.2 before lunch
Been out since lunchtime and didn't get chance to test again

Now I'm confused!
Started this morning with a good round 6.0. Decided to experiment so had 2 rounds of toast with cheese on and it was white bread. 2 1/2 hrs on and the after brek reading was7.0.
Before lunch was 6.8 and 2 1/2 hrs after lunch was 5.8.
6 Jaffa cakes for mid afternoon snack (because I wanted them) shot me up to a massive 8.0 before tea reading.
For tea I had 2 Sainsburys ultimate sausages (97% meat), 4 rashers of bacon, 2 eggs and a slice of white bread toasted and then dipped in the bacon fat (which was the butter I fried the bacon in). so, 8.0 was the reading before all this and 2 1/2 hrs on 5.8. I decided this can't be right so tested again, this time 5.7. What is going on here??:confused:

Is there a particular reason you are testing at 2.5hrs? The normal time is 2hrs after your first bite. I would expect most low carb meals to have been virtually done and dusted by 2.5hrs. Especially white bread as it is a quick release carb, meaning it converts to glucose very fast, so is likely to peak earlier, but all that fat will have held it down a bit.

6 Jaffa cakes????? Blimey.

5.5 before breakfast.
5.3 before dinner 2 hrs after 6.5.
Yesterday my readings were abit higher tried porridge for the first time before breakfast it was 5.2 after it went to 8.2 so no porridge for me oh well.
