burgeon bread

Hi I'm fairly new to this forum only diagnosed a few weeks ago. I am changing my diet completely to what I ate before I was blissfully ignorant for years I was not eating correctly. Anyway what is done is done but I see people mention burgeon bread my query is where do you buy it? and is it less calories or sugar or cholestrol than ordinary wholemeal bread? Some seem to think so and any help I can get to lose weight /sugar/cholestrol will be good.

I think it's called Burgen bread, and you can get it from supermarkets, I am fairly sure the bigger Tescos sell it.

Personally, I can't stand the stuff, it tastes to me like cardboard, but I know other people love it...

I tend to eat 2 things now. Tescos do mini brown rolls that are 60 cals and 10g carbs, which are nice. There are also Warburton's Thins I like. They are like two mini slices of bread you can make a sandwich with, and they total 100 cals and 20 g of carbs, compared with about 230 cals and 34 carbs for a 'normal' sandwich.

I like the burgen soya and linseed.
The also do a chia and sunflower variety.
Like the previous poster says though, my wife hates them both wheras I like them.
We now compromise on a multieed farmhouse batch.
 
Burgen Soya & Linseed Bread (800g loaf): 1 slice has Calories 124, Sodium 130mg, Total Fat 4g, Total Carbs 12g, Sugars 2g, Protein 7g. Price in Asda: £1.40, I think Sainsbury's is £1.50.
They also do a 400g loaf which has slightly smaller slices and other breads such as a Buckwheat and Poppy Seed.
I think most people eat it because it has less carbs than other breads.
Having said that, I still feel sleepy after eating a sandwich made with it. (There again, I have sleep apnoea and hypothyroidism as well as T2 so it's anyone's guess as to whether the bread is to blame :lol: )

Burgeon bread ??? LOL .. the member has obviously seen my home made loaf when I'm having a bad day, cos that sure can turn out a tad on the dense and heavy side :lol: :lol: :lol:

Burgen Soy and Linseed is a lower carb bread wich makes the crunchiest most delicious toast.
It is the Soya and Linseed one that's so beneficial.
Locally Tesco and Waitrose sell it. Ihaven't checked out the other supermarkets.

Hi everyone and thankyou for your replies I'll look in those store I'll have to give it a try. MCMLXXIII That's why mum's go to Iceland.ha ha
I do visit most of these shops everyone mentioned perhaps I just missed it before or it was sold out so will pick one up next time I shop.

Hi everyone thanks for your replies I went to morrisons and thanks to the picture I knew what to look for cheers Sid for the pic. forgot to do the coupon but hopefully it'll be ok for next time. Think I might survive a bit longer than I originally thought so any help like this is much appreciated. I'm hoping I do have years left and one things for sure I'll have definitely tried hard but ohhhh there is so much chocolatey stuff around now it's nearly easter. I bought a tiny bar of fairtrade ghanaian dark chocolate with spices and orange oil not so good I know but I'm being really good just keep looking at it and resisting . well I might crack and have a piece at Easter.:0)
 
May I also echo what others have said about Warburtons thins. Really good if you fancy and sandwich. I load them wih anything from cheese, tuna, ham and they are a great filler with some nuts.
 
I have only been using Burgen Soya & Linseed bread since October 2012, Tesco Wrexham used to stock it until about two weeks ago and now we have been told that they are no longer going to sell it, I find it strange as Tesco make a big deal out of promoting the help the give to diabetics.

I have written to them but my emails are only being answered but an automated system, it appears the are not that clued up on the benefit of Burgen bread to diabetics
 
Burgen S&L makes brilliant crunchy toast.

I love Burgen bread! So difficult to limit myself to one slice though. It is higher in calories, quite considerably, but it leaves you full up, which I never feel after having two slices of Nimble or similar. (That tended to up my bg too)
So far, Burgen doesn't raise my bg, so until it does, I can enjoy it without feeling too guilty. :wink:
 
What was that about Tescos helping diabetics? You wouldn't think so looking at the shelves stacked with sugar-filled goods and white flour bakery products
