I could not have face palmed so hard at that, my Grandma tells me the same sometimes and it's just mind boggling how they still have that notion ingrained. The HCP at my GP practice spent 15 minutes of my appointment this morning (bloods for HbA1C and cholesterol) telling me how she just couldn't resist eating cake and that she was destined to get T2 Diabetes because her mum has it!
She told me it's sugar you have to watch out for/not eat as much. I said no, not just sugar - carbohydrates also - grains/root vegetables, etc. - are turned to glucose in the blood.......... Well, yes, she said, but everyone needs to eat SOME sugar - your body needs it! It felt a little strange having to explain to a (H)ealth (C)are (P)ROFESSIONAL about gluconeogenesis. Her response? Well I never!
Looking on the bright side, at least now she does know. And if that saves one other person from being told they NEED to eat some sugar, that's a good thing right? Baby steps. Baby steps.
It's not so much gng...
Ah, yes.I think OP means that we don’t need to consume exogenous carbohydrate, because gluconeogenesis manufactures it for us.

I gave up trying to save the world many moons ago, the world does not want to be savedI have given up trying to tell people that fruit is not a good sugar. It does the same as any other sugar. Fructose is not a magic sugar. They dont listen. No point in trying to say anything anymore.
Why do some people like to do all that pestering, it can be very annoying even when it isn't diabetes related. You need to risk offending someone for a few minutes, being firm, saying "no thank you and don't keep asking".Im on holiday right now (for people with disabilities), and every dinner time I feel like I’m bashing my head against a brick wall.
“Do you want banoffee pie/treacle tart/sticky toffee pudding for desert” (one main option akin to these each night)
“Can’t I’m diabetic”
“We got fresh fruit salad”
“No I’m diabetic”
“How about a piece of fruit then, that’s healthy”
“No it will send my sugars up”
“Oh we got ice cream, or flavoured yogurt”
“No, thanks” (their yogurt is really sweet so it can’t be great)
“How about a glass of fruit juice”
“..... no..... that’s the worst for sending sugars sky high”
I’m not the only diabetic here and they regularly get people who can’t think for themselves, I dread to think what they are doing for that poor guests sugars.
I really wonder what they would say if I asked for a bowl of sugar and tucked into it. I bet they would then warn me of my sugar levels.
