I am a newly diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic and have just started Byetta injections but am confused as to what to eat ,when to eat and how to deal with the resultant trapped wind and acid reflux/heartburn.
I think byetta forces one to eat healthily, which is good.
Can anyone reply with their experiences.
I love to swim but found it difficult due to trapped wind from a breakfast of half a small bowl of porridge this morning!

Hi. My understanding is that Byetta helps reduce blood sugar in those T2s who are overweight. It does this partly by helping reduce insulin resistance. I'm not sure it does anything to help you eat healthily. As you are on Byetta I suspect your GP took account of your weight? I can't comment on the wind as it can have many causes, but you need to reduce you carb intake to help with the blood sugar and also insulin resistance. The swimming should also help.

As I understand,byetta is a GLP1 agonist, and:
Increases insulin secretion in response to eating.
Suppresses glucagon release hence reduces glugose secretion.
slows down gastric emtying.
Suppresses appetite.

Thanks for the replies.
I wanted to know what (typically) a personwith similar conditon eats and when and how often.

Hi, I was recently on Byetta I ate 3 meals a day, I never snack and used to eat normal meals. I don't low carb as I would be too restricted on what I could eat. It did suppress my appetite and I lost all the weight I gained using insulin.
