Hi,first post,my question is i have been on the 10mg dose of byetta for about 1 year, everything going well until about 2-3 months ago when i started getting hypos in the evening sometimes down into the low two,s, having to eat a lot of carbs to bring the numbers back to the right side of 4.0
I'm currently on-
byetta 10 mg
bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg
rosuvastatin 10mg
ramipril 10mg
metformin mr 500mg x4
aspirin 75mg
glimepiride 3mg
For a reason i'm sure someone here will know, my morning dose of byetta has never given me any problems,I have banana for my breakfast which keeps me at good numbers, lunch varies but numbers still good, evening meal about 1hour-45 to 2hours after 10mg byetta dose numbers take a nosedive, have to take loads of carbs to get numbers back to normal, feel like sh@t for hours after not mention the extra weight its putting on me,
i went to nurse about 3 weeks ago to talk about it, I was on 5mg of glimepiride that she said i should come down to 3mg,all it seems to have done is given me worse numbers when i wake, used to be about 5.8 - 6.3 now seems to be about 7.8- 8.4,she said because i drive for a living she did not want to see my numbers too low (honestly can say i have never had a hypo anytime other than after evening meal)
Should i go back to nurse and ask to get my byetta reduced to 5mg? What effect will it have on my a1c ? should i ask to increase my glimepiride back to 5 mg ?
Any help would be fantastic, any more information that you need from me please just ask.And also any questions that i need to ask nurse.thanks

You sound just like I was a while back !

I had been on Byetta for around 2 years (10ug). No problems until suddenly in the evenings I was getting a hypo after EVERY evening meal.

After discussions with my Endo I asked to be put back on the 5ug dose. I wasn't taking any anti Diabetic meds in the evening, just 1g metformin in the mornings. All my previous other AD meds were stopped prior to this. This was as a result of losing over 5 1/2 stone and lifestyle changes. The problem seemed to be that my Insulin production was higher in the evenings ! I did need to eat a few less carbs in the mornings but all went well and I have remained on the 5ug dose for some time now, no problems.

I would suggest you discuss your present meds with your GP or Consultant as it looks like they need to be reviewed urgently.

Hope that helps .......
