BYETTA

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

Hi tizzzzy.

Never had any problem with a food whilst on Byetta ?

Having read some of the things that you eat I would have a major problem with them, but this is due to the carbohydrate content, not sickness. They would send my Bg levels soaring.

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

Hi Vivienne.

The sickness and nausea is not automatic. I never had a single episode at all. If you have none yet then just hope it doesn't surface ?

There are various remedies people have tried which seem to have had some success, I think one that was mentioned was Ginger Biscuits and also Ginger Capsules ? Have a look at some of the previous posts in this thread for more information.

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

Hi Vivkaroo

Still havent received a pm - Im not that computer literate so dont know what you could be doing wrong!!
Am just coming up to 10 weeks on the Byetta 5 pen and I am about at the end of my tether. After my IBS had been much improved I had trouble last Saturday, Monday & tuesday (diarrhea++) but it did not feel like my IBS. Decided I must have had a bug but this morning it is happening again. I have kept on with the ginger capsule (as I did wonder if that was to blame?) and I really do not know what to do next. Am virtually off the Lantus now and my bg in the day are much improved - just struggling with the fasting numbers as I always have done.
Having already been through Gliclazide (weight gain), Lantus (same) and now Byetta which I do not seem able to tolerate, I am worried about what will be the next experiment on me - I know this is absolutely ridiculous but I am so low I just feel like binning all my tablets (bp as well).

Viv - perhaps you could give me a brief answer on here as we are struggling to get a pm through?!!

Thanks anyway, Jude

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

Hi Ken

I pm Vivkaroo the other day because I know she had trouble with byetta the first time she was on it but the trouble didnt happen until she was a few months into taking it and I was asking her what happened to her. I am wondering if that is what is happening to me now with the diarrhea etc. that I have suffered this past week.

I was holding out so much hope for the Byetta - seems to work for everyone else but not me!!

My logic says that I would have suffered with the diarrhea earlier on if it was down to the byetta but who knows?? Not a subject most people want to discuss (as I have learned with 35 years of IBS) and that was mainly why I pm Vivkaroo - she has replied but it is somewhere in the ether!!

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

Hi Ken

Have pm Vivkaroo with my email address. However I have just realised that I might have a problem too!!

Some of the pms which I think I have sent are in the Outbox but do not appear in the sent box?? Does this mean that the messages have not gone and if so how do I go about making sure they are sent?

Thanks. Jude

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

First of all the inbox is obviously where your messages come in.
The Outbox is where your messages that you have sent are stored.
The sent messages box shows all the messages that you have sent and the times of sending etc.

If there are no messages in the sent message box then they were not sent. Did you type your message and then press the SUBMIT button ? Make sure that the message destination is the correct one at the top of the page as well.

It might be an idea to try sending me a pm and then I can check if it is something else that is wrong.

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

Hi Vivienne

Am so glad not everyone is suffering like I am!! Could I just ask you what do you normally eat for your breakfast? (am desperately trying all ways of trying to limit the nausea and unwellness but am fast running out of ideas!!)

Thanks. Jude

Jude, sorry you are suffering.
I vary breakfasts, sometimes poached eggs with mushrooms, sometimes fruit with yogurt and nuts, sometimes smoked salmon 'sandwich', using chinese lettuce leaves instead of bread.
In colder weather, porridge.
Does that help?

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

Hi Vivienne

Ideas are always welcome - I am strictly a porridge girl ! mainly because of my irritable bowel - this is why I am finding diet more difficult - its like the low carbers also tend to be high fat and guess what high fat is bad for IBS. Oh well, maybe one day I will manage to sort out diet, medication & exercise!!

Thanks anyway. BFN. Jude

Re: Anyone use Byetta?

An update on my progress on Byetta together with a reduced carb, low GI diet.

Yesterday I cracked that elusive 16 stone target. Left it till today to confirm.

Waking Bg.......4.9 mmol/l. Weight: 15 St. 13.72 lbs. Celebration time. :D

I am below the last target I set myself and am now aiming to get below 15 stone. No deadline, just steady progress towards the day when I can come back here and shout it out. The last time I weighed anything like 15 stone was when I was in my late 20's, early 30's. Working and as fit as a flea. I am 61 next month and feel that same level of fitness now. Amazing ?

Now need to get back the muscle tone that was lost after building my weight up to 19.5 stone in January 2009. Started a new exercise routine which will hopefully put that right. Advice elsewhere has helped that decision.

What do I have to thank for getting me here. A reduction in carbs down to about 50 -60g a day first of all. Byetta was the catalyst too. Without that drug I would have been lost.

Information from people who are no longer around on this site but have moved on to the new LCD site, they know who they are. Without their information and tenacity I would probably still be shovelling carbs down me and be over 20 stone. So my thanks goes to them. The ones who made it all possible.

Ken. :D
