BYETTA

Well I started Byetta today and did my first injection this evening. I will admit that I was absolutley petrified. I stood there trying to talk my self into it and after a couple of minutes I pinched at least an inch and pushed the needle in. I didn't feel it at all. My legs nearly gave way and they felt all wobbly but that was just because I got myself in a tizz. Thanks to Ken for his advice and my diabetic nurse gave me the same advice as well about pinching an inch and just pushing the needle in.

I finished dinner about 30 mins ago and so far no nausea so thats okay. Just need to stop myself from keep wanting to test my blood lol :D

Susie.
Well done to you......I am so pleased that you found the advice worked for you. I hope it all goes to plan now. Resist the urge to test too soon and don't expect miracles straight away. It will improve things I am sure, just relax and let things take their natural course. It will all get better. :D

Has the Gliclazide been reduced at all ?

Ken

Glicazide has been reduced to one twice a day. Metformin stays the same. I was really stupid though, I'm so used to taking 2 glicazide that I took them as normal  I hope it won't matter just this once but I must concentrate tomorrow.

Hi susie.
thaat's good to hear, I don't know what your pre mael Bg level was but keep a check on the post prandial readings to make sure you don't hypo, less than 4 mmol/l. Hopefully the reduction of Glic should be enough.

Ken

Ok, so it was high. early days yet. Some tweaking of the diet maybe and we will soon get those numbers down to the guidleine levels for as T2. I can drop about 4 - 5 points without any glic, just the Byetta. Not saying that is what you will do as we all react differently, just stick with it and read all you can on here and the dietary advice.

Ken.

Well done Susie.
Stick with it and things will get even better. There may be some setbacks along the way but you know you can always ask a question here and we will try to help out. You will always get support.

Now, how far have you got reading this lot then...........

I'm on page 9  Everyone seems to love Byetta. I can't wait to see if I've lost any weight. My diabetic nurse is going to call me tomorrow to see how I'm coping. The only thing I'm missing is my usual couple pints of strong black coffee. Nausea is only mild most of the time. It did get bad yesterday but is mostly okay today.

Only another 94 to go then......... Hope you have the weekend free ??

Now, you can't take the Coffee yet that is what I love now. I find the taste of Tea has changed for me. Not sure that it is the Byetta though, there are other meds which can have an effect on the taste buds.

Be good. :D

Feeling very queasy in the evenings. I can put up with it if my bg levels come down and I lose weight. My level before breakfast today was 13.1 and before dinner was 11.1 they are coming down slightly. I need to remind myself that I've only been on it a couple of days. I'm starting to obsess over the levels which isn't good.

Hi Susie.
Please don't obsess about anything. As you say that is not a good thing ! You are starting to see the slow green shoots of improvement, things are starting to get better. Look on things positively and see every little drop in numbers or weight as an achievement......that is what it is. You are doing well. It is only a few days and even Byetta is not a 'miracle' cure. Give it time to do it's work.

When I first started it took around two to three weeks for numbers to get better, within my target levels. Weight loss will come eventually, mine started very slowly....then it just took off, to the point where I eventually lost 70+ pounds, over 5 stone in 10 months or so. An average of 7 lbs a month, nothing too drastic but every week I felt fitter, healthier, livelier.

That, I believe is what will happen to you........just give it plenty of time and relax more.
They say reading is good for relaxation.......hint !

Hi

Been on Byetta now for 4 months and still doing quite well except that I seem to get more hungry at lunch times now and am eating slightly more. I was wondering whether it might be better to have my injections before lunch and my evening meal now instead, though it will mean I won't be able to eat with family by the time the 6 hours have past, though that isn't really a big problem.

I haven't lost anymore weight the past few weeks and I think it is because I am having more to eat at lunch time.

Does anybody else get more hungry during the day. The first few months I didn't seem to want anything much at all. Why would this happen now?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
