Hello, I was recently diagnosed with diabetes because I was admitted to the hospital for a (glucose) blood sugar reading of 944 mg/dL very dangerous coma level blood sugar. The ER doctors got it down to 225 mg/dL and I was released.

The doctors couldn't determine with type I was because for years my blood sugar has been normal levels and my A1C also and wasn't gradually getting high it just jumped to that level so they ran two test to see which type of diabetes I have C-Peptide and Human Insulin Ab Test I was told the Human Insulin Ab Test was to test if I had and antibodies towards insulin the test results came back.

Human Insulin Ab 0.00 nmol/L Standard Range 0.00 - 0.02 nmol/L

C-Peptide 3.6 ng/mL Standard Range 1.1 - 4.4 ng/mL

My question is does these ranges show my pancreas is still producing insulin and I don't have any antibodies against insulin?

Sorry I'm new to all this

Your c-peptide supports that you are producing insulin, which is why your blood sugars and HbA1c are normal. Even people who don't have diabetes may develop transient hyperglycemia during severe illness. I hope you stay well.

Interesting results! On its own, the antibody test isn't foolproof as some non diabetics test positive and some diabetics don't.

Your C-peptide numbers though, are different to those quoted by this site with the normal range being 0.51 to 2.72 ng/mL. I don't know if DCUK are correct or not but if they are it would mean that your C-Peptide count is high. (Edit: I just had a look on Google for normal levels of C-peptide and generally I think the information backs up this website although there are several different 'normal' ranges quoted.)

If a person has high C-peptide and high glucose levels this may be taken as an indication of T2 diabetes. This is re-inforced by the negative antibody result.
But the fact that your diabetes developed quickly is (I think) unusual for T2.

However, we can't diagnose you here so I suggest you have a look at the info available and talk to your diabetes team.
