I had this 3 months into low carb, then realised I have never added salt to my cooking,or even when dinner is served no salt, which was fine when allowed other foods before low carb. I started to add a little salt and the calf cramps went away
I suffered terribly with cramp last year, went to the doctor and he prescribed quinine tablets which seemed to sort it out. I don't take them any more and only get the occasional cramp.
In my early days of low carb eating I got night cramps in my feet and ankles. Someone here suggested it could be magnesium deficiency. I started using pink Himalayan salt in my cooking, aside from salt it contains other minerals including magnesium. However magnesium isn’t absorbed very well by mouth so I also started using magnesium spray on my feet and ankles at bedtime.
