I have not eaten white since last August. Very circumspect...only sugar I have is in milk I put in tea 2x a day. I walk I swim I bike...daily. I have lost weight but only about 20 pounds and not what I consider should have...I keep trying. I read stories on here where ppl who go low carb have dramtic losses...in numbers all around. Not I :(
I took A1c today and it is 7.0 than Feb was 6.8. Yes I know too soon but I am so frustrated I thought might help. Heres the thing: I check all the time...wakeup, hour before 2 after..etc bed...etc etc etc.. im sure my frustration is showing :(
ALL daytime levels are normal...never high...but all I eat is protein and fat,, so controlled. But wake up with between 7 and 8...
I eat boiled egg and pc of bacon asap so wont go any higher. One time I tried going for walk before eating...that was not the answer..it went higher.
Sooo...I am not on meds. ..I figured that if I lost weight (and still am overweight but by 20 pounds ) exercised, cut out carbs...I could control. But this high A1C has to be coming from high dawn phenomenon or somogyi or something!!!If I go to doctor..i suspect I will be given mega metformin which I dont need thru day...Also I have no family dr. he retired...so Im really scared to walk in somewhere ..
anyone identify???
oh btw A!C was 7.0 last Aug. 6.9 in November 6.8 Feb today 7.0

Hi. You seem to be doing all the right things. Yes, the HBa1C will go up and down. It reflects a weighted 3 month period so the previous month has the most effect. I suspect you should be on at least Metformin - most of us are and it helps most if you have excess weight. Do see the GP and ask for the Metformin.

My HbA1c's varied by a point or two over the last 18 months and I'm fairly well controlled on my LCHF diet. Our glucose levels are constantly changing all the time, and I know if I'm stressed or ill these changes can also affect them. But I don't consider the slight differences significant, or worth worrying over.

I think you need to take things steady and try to stop worrying. If you were seeing big changes, then it would be time to seek advice - have a look here for a guide to diabetic control. And there's nothing actually wrong in taking medication if you end up needing a little assistance in managing your diabetes.

What's your typical days meals/food?

breakfast 1 boiled egg 2 strips bacon...tea with bit of milk in it
lunch. lettuce with chicken broiled or tuna/mayo...
dinner glass of wine with handful of cashews or almonds or mixed nuts or cubes of cheese
then more chicken breast (crock pot) and green beans or cauliflower or broccoli.
SSDD
no desserts ever. no cookies ever. no no no. over.
3 years ago my family dr of 40 years said your fasting is high..8.5...said a1c was 6.2 said keep exercising avoid stress. latter has not been easy. he said he could give me one januvia to keep night down but otherwise "you dont have to" dont worry about tho.
in addition to major family stress I had big dental procedures in february.
when I had the blood work done last summer it was sposed to be routine...a walkin dr said be good idea...i went for something else. so I had blood work done and requested a personal copy...other one was sposed to go to dr. I viewed and printed ...saw all other numbers perfect and same as previous 3 years ago. except fbg flagged at 8.2 (btw lab is an hour away so i know its going up as I drive) and a1c at 7.0
But heres the thing...I wait and wait but no call. Now if I had not gotten my own copy I would have assumed no call =no problem. thats what we are told. over and over.
impressive.
so I decided I can do this.
oh and cholestrol fine..I do tho have glass or sometimes 2 of cab wine. fam dr, said ok. keeps chol down
and my anxiety :)

I found some of your text a bit tricky to follow, but one thing I did notice is you've had some major dental work done.

If you look at my statistics in my signature, below this post, you will see my HbA1cs have been pretty stable, except the last two, within a short time frame of each other had gone up a tiny bit.

Our HbA1cs can be affected by many things - illness, stress, infections, exercise, lack of exercise, fatigue, sleeplessness, climate or time zones, even before we talk about diet. I'm sure some of those things ebb and flow in your life, even with or without your dental work.

Now, back to me. :) The HbA1c I had done in October followed 5 pretty stressful months of investigations for a potentially very serious condition, with the HbA1c to check I was fit for surgery a few days ahead of the test. (Thankfully, my condition turned out to be distressing and quite serious, but not a killer we had feared).

I attributed that rise in HbA1c to the everything the previous few months.

The latest one, in December followed a period of further distressing complications, following my surgery. (Sometimes we're just not too lucky!!), so I am content it remained elevated.

I will have another HbA1c over the next couple of months (I'm overseas at the moment) and I hope my test might prove my theory, otherwise I just have to accept the variation.

Nobody's lives run dead flat calm, so to expect our bodies to perform in such a way could be unrealistic.

Good luck with it all, but it's sometimes useful to try to step back and look at the overall picture when trying to solve a problem.

Thanks for response Daibell. I will keep on I guess...I am not in home country at moment...so no GP. Even if I was home I d have no one other than a walkin clinic...and I am afraid of whom I might get. Ive read many different dr assessments of cases..and they get angry if you even question them from what ive seen...I have white coat syndrome..and even though my home blood pressure...taken 3x a day ...is 125/80 ish......at a dr or dentist it soars when i walk in the door. all any dr wants to do is focus on bp no matter why im there....and increase my meds!!! so make me a zombie so it gets rid of the highs! Yes Im worried about bp and blood sugar. I feel like Im going crazy. I think I need anger managemnt
