I look at it this way. If there was such a Vunder'erb, then you can bet your bottom dollar that Big Pharma will have cornered the market and restricted access to it in every way they can. That is what 'They' are good at.Nope. Sorry. Never seen a post on the forum where it has worked for anyone, either.
Lots of us use supplements and diet to help blood sugar control, and many T2s find that losing weight can help tremendously, and sometimes reverse their diabetes.
However, most websites claiming 'cures' are nothing but snake oil salesmen and con artists. PLEASE don't part with any money until you have checked the claim out very thoroughly. Many of these sites have multiple links to supposed 'reviews' and 'claims' that are just more sales pitch.
Just like a broken pancreas has no insulin? Some herbs and vitamins may help you to control your BG levels slightly but only if you eat a sensible diet such as LCHF ,by the way did you know that broken biscuits don't have any calories ?!!!!
CAROL
You must rattle when you walk! Trouble is, if only one of your supplements has an effect, then how do you intend to find out which? I generally tested them one at a time, but made the mistake of starting LCHF mid-test, which distorted my result.Hi, started low carb 5 months ago, with good results, but find it difficult to get below 60-70 grams daily (I miss oven chips so much)
back in Feb, an Indian friend suggested bitter melon, but as I hate vegetables, I bought the capsules (karelobetic). I found they had an effect.........my BG went up to about 8 after a meal with 30-40 grams of carbs, instead of 10 or 11.
I've explored the literature on this, and now taking lots of supplements, including Gymnema, fenugreek, Ivy Gourd, Pterocarpus, Turmeric, mulberry. Also taking resistant starch, FOS, prebiotics. I think these all work OK in combination.
I agree with everyone who says that herbs alone won't work, but combined with low-carbing, I feel is worth a try for some people.
Also, may have to try fairly long term, as any potential beta cell regeneration will be minor and take a while.
My perspective is from someone diabetic for 17 years who was close to going on insulin. I suspect my beta cell function was down to about 20% of normal, with huge insulin resistance as well. I think the supplements are helping a little with both these things.
Some of the herbs undoubtedly just delay stomach emptying and how long it takes glucose to enter the bloodstream, but I'm convinced some are helping my insulin work better. When my BG goes above 7.7 (the upper limit I aim for, following Jenny Ruhl, diabetes 101), it goes less high, but for slightly longer, but I have satisfied myself that the "area under the curve" is reduced, so doing myself less damage.
I plan to continue, despite the expense, and then stop all supplements at some point, keep low carbing, and see if things deteriorate.
