Hi Everyone

Well, it's been three weeks since I got my meter and about the same time, I began low-carbing.

I had zero carbs for breakfasts (meat and cheese); 40g of carbs at lunch with a low GI tortilla wrap (wholemeal) filled with chicken and salad (with lashings of Peri-Peri sauce  ); and at dinner, had salad, or something a bit Quorny with some veg (sans spuds) and some blueberries and Greek yoghourt.. Overall, I guess I'm taking in just under 80g per day now.

What amazes me is the stability of my BG readings, beginning with about 7.5 fasting, 6.x about midday, 6.x mid afternoon (two hours after lunch) dropping to about 5.9ish before dinner. Tend to go to bed showing about 6.x. All this equates to about 5.2% HbA1c so I'm looking forward to a vast improvement on that score when testing time comes.

I suppose I'm looking for a bit of validation really. Am I heading along the right lines? What does everyone else think? Incidentally, I take 2 metformin 500g per day.

Oh, forgot to mention: out went breakfast cereals, flour, cake, biscuits, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar, jam, honey, etc.

I've got some feedback................ Your results are looking great and you're obviously working very hard at your diet(which can be be hard!) so keep up the good work and well done! :D

Hi ursus,

thought I'd better reply before you answer yourself again.

It's stability that you're aiming for (and obviously stability below 7.8 ) which it sounds like you're achieving. If you read Dr Bernstein, it's all about making those swings minimal - he's a bit extreme for me as he tries to keep levels almost flat. It sounds like the numbers you're getting are excellent. You need to get in a rhythm now so that you know that what you eat wont affect you. You also need to write all these numbers down, because the next stage is that the pre-meal numbers will gradually decrease (as with the +2hrs) so that a 6.0 becomes a 5.8 then a 5.5 - you won't see these changes without a detailed log (and a graph) but you need to see these changes to keep yourself motivated.

Those numbers are great especially for only 3 weeks in. As to what to expect for your next hBA1c then it will all depend on how quickly your blood cells die off and get replaced. I found my 3 month post diagnosis test came back slightly higher than I was predicting but my 6 month one was far closer to my prediction.

Way to go! You've got it in a nutshell.
But why are you eating that fake protein mould Quorn? A novel food, highly processed, linked to gastrointestinal complaints.

Well, my partner is a vegetarian you see. We have one meal a day where we sit down and eat together as that is very important. I don't eat a lot of it though.

Validated!! Your meals are fine, they are slightly too high in carbs for me (not breakfast, but I suppose you guessed that  ). I would say keep doing what you're doing, refining your meals, and getting YOU happy and confident, then watch the HbA1c. I see you joining the 4%ers some day pretty soon.

Great result! Such a good effort. Don't hope for too low an HbA1c though. It's an average and your good levels will take a while to work through. Also, the conversion of average BGs to HbA1c is an average-we all have different Glycation rates. I get higher than average A1cs from low average BGs.

This is very true. I thought my HbA1c was going to be higher than it was, and as you can see Grazer thought his was going to be lower. Your HbA1c is not an easy figure to predict as it is an average and at the most we test around 8 times a day, so are we higher or lower at times we are not testing? No one knows. Either way, you're doing well, and you will see your BG getting better and you more able to keep it stable the longer you eat and test.

Good feeling though isn't it? Take care - Joanna.

Assume we all know the story here. Jimi got a real bad time for "desecrating" the Anerican anthem. Truth was he was doing nothing of the sort. Having been in the Army, despite a chequered record, he was said to be very patriotic and saw this as his tribute musically. He was said to be overwrought by the suggestions it was anything else.
