Hi, Januvia works functions by blocking the liver dumping sugar into one's blood and stimulating the production of insulin. Thus in thory at least a hypo is possible. Is this the case? If so what precautions need to be taked.
Thanks for reading

Januvia side effects......

Side-effects gastro-intestinal disturbances; peripheral oedema; upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis; pain; less commonly dry mouth, anorexia, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, hypoglycaemia, osteoarthritis; also reported pancreatitis, rash, cutaneous vasculitis, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome

Yes, it's possible to hypo on Januvia.....in fact anybody can hypo, even a non-Diabetic. It just means a low blood glucose level. Just stay away from levels below 4 mmol/l. You should get warning signs before you get that low. That is called hypo awareness.

As for the mechanism and how to cope with a hypo.....see here :

Thanks for that Cugila, a thorough answer as usual. My latest hba1c was 6.9 and very pleased I was too. As I do not test I will have to bear in mind the warning signs. It is a bit of a worry living alone.
I'm partial to a guinness myself. I was in Ireland recently and I was'nt worrying about hypos, due to the creamy nectar.
Thanks again.
