I often fast (for religious reasons)- only water for 24 hours. Can I do this safely whilst taking Metformin? (I take 2000mg a day).
I have seen different answers when I searched online.
Thank you both. When I was diagnosed my Dr said I could fast, but the pharmacist said no and then I have read so many differing opinions on the internet.

I don't fast much, and when I do it is usually coffee, cream and butter in the morning then water.
I keep taking the Metformin because it doesn't upset my stomach.
So I think you are ok to keep taking it if your stomach is happy.
You could perhaps halve the dose?

I intermittent fast every day and have dome a few extended fasts... don't take any metformin.
I find fasting and ultra low carb works better than medication.

I think my aim in the end will be to control my bg by low carb and fasting. I just have a lot of weight to lose and until the school holidays (I'm a teacher) it is easier for me to use the diet sachets. I have only been taking Metformin for just over 3 weeks and really hope my bg will be low enough at my first hba1c check (end of August) that I can come off of it.
