Hi
I am a type 2 and take metformin 500mg twice a day. During the last 5 weeks I have experienced several times a day sweating & feeling light headed. Do you think I am having low sugar levels. Tony

see your Dr, it's possible that because your blood sugar is coming down from high to near normal, you are having false hypo symptoms, while still having a safe blood glucose level, until you see your dr, when you have these symptoms have 3 jelly beans or similar and 1/2 a sandwich. just to be on the safe side.
very few people hypo with metformin, can in conjunction with an inadequate diet intake.

Best to meter test your BG levels .
This will steer you to a more conclusive answer to your own question .

If you are lower than a 5 - then yep your are running low .
I would suggest you vist your GP to further discuss this .

Tony - I don't think you've told us enough to be able to form any kind of opinion. When do you feel light-headed and sweating? Is it quite some time after you have eaten? Do you have a meter you can use to test your bloods, to find out where you are?

Thanks to you all for your replies. I don't have a meter, I will take your advice and buy one. The sweating and lightheaded feeling is after sometime since I last had food. I should also mention that I have been on a diet for the last 6 months with increased exercising. I am 75 years old. Thanks again for your advice. Tony

Well done on your efforts to improve your lot, in the light of your diagnosis. Is it fair to assume the changes in your lifestyle were "inspired" by your diagnosis?

I would reiterate the need for home testing. It really does give us so many clues about the changes happening in our bodies, and the impact of some of our actions; be those diet, exercise, alcohol, travel, and so on.

What were your blood scores when you were diagnosed? And when is your next review or HbA1c due?

Tony75 .

Need to add here with possible low BP [blood pressure] ?
Symptoms can be sweaty/clammy and dizzyness/lightheadedness .

Yep a BG meter is certainly needed to check your BG setting and range .
Exercise and diet is great but keep eye on your BG levels .

Best to speak with GP about your symptoms and possibly get your BP checked out too .
Then this can be ruled out - if not connected .
Better to be safe than sorry .

And bear in mind the gp and dn are going to try tell you you dont need a monitor ...tell them to shove their words and get yourself one :) no monitor you do not know how you are doing day to day and problem to problem
