Sorry am new to this forum and any forum in fact but this is pet related but I am looking for some advice. :(
My cocker spaniel was diagnosed with diabetes last week and has just started treatment, the costs are starting to look more expensive than we thought, so have decided to look on the internet for the insulin and syringes. They are cheaper but am worried that the insulin will get shook up in the post and not be any good, can anyone advise if they have bought any insulin this way over the internet.

Hi babybelle,

I doubt whether you would be able to buy insulin by mail order because it is essential that it is kept within a strict temperature range, which of course anything delivered by post or courier cannot be.

hya and welcome,
my mums dog was diabetic, she used to shop around different vets to find the cheapest, also if u are on low income u may be able to use the pdsa :D
good luck and let us know how u get on

There are several online pet meds suppliers in the UK who state that the insulin is sent out special delivery in a chill pack which keeps it chilled for upto 4 days, it was really the being shook up I was more concerned about and wondered if anyone had actually used this service.
Thanks for your reply anyway. :)
Realised I had calculated the insulin quantity wrongly so does last longer than I expected.

Many diabetics in the US buy insulin from Canada by post (becuase it's cheaper). In general they don't seem to have problems. I assume that it will be sent in insulated packing.

Canine diabetes is fairly common, so I bet there's a forum dedicated to it somewhere.
for your peace of mind: insulin travels well.
My brother is a vet in Surrey and has a
number of diabetic patients, cats and dogs. I know most of them do well.
Incidentally
you still need a prescription to buy the insulin. I have an idea that France has cheaper veterinary medicines.

Hi babybelle, just a quick question as my son was asking today if dogs get diabetes and i said i thought so but...how did you know? what are the symptoms for a dog please? Just curious as i have a dog :)

My CGM sensors are routinely delivered by courier, and they have the same temperature sensitivity as insulin. Polystyrene box arrives lined with ice packs, contents within. Bit of a non-issue I reckon?

Just a little addendum on pets with diabetes. AsI posted earlier, My brother is a vet and, naturally enough, I have asked questions in the past. Apparently Dogs get T1 and cats get T2
Symptoms are usually, unxplained weight loss and increased thirst as well as "accidents" in inappropriate places.

Ahhhh...thanks for that. My dad always used to say he would trust a vet with a diagnosis more than a doctor as they have to work out the symptoms as the pet can't talk and in his eyes that made them more clever :D
