This is actually a very valid point. The anxiety that a high post prandial reading can cause some much anxiety.

I'm beginning to think that maybe sticking to a low carb diet will have significant effect on BS anyway and maybe for some total control by measuring constantly could be detrimental in the long term.

As an example, I had a high ish one the other night, after a low carb meal and got so ****** off I ate a bar of chocolate, which set of self loathing and a day or so of depression because I know I shouldn't have and never would have had it not been for that reading.

It can become obsessive and not always in a positive way.

They are a good tool, used properly, but there have been some obsessive posts about meter readings and marginal increases, you can understand why the NHS don't support a blanket prescription for meters.

I can understand the NHS's financial issue with issuing meters.

So you do consider that telling a fellow poster that if they don't follow "the rules" they must not "like your toes and eyesight as much as most other people...." is helpful and supportive.
I don't recall mentioning any "rules" - and as far as being helpful, and supportive goes, if it makes one person stop and think about what they are doing to themselves, yes I do.

Well certainly not to keep pricking myself for no apparent reason.
It is not to "keep pricking yourself for no apparent reason" - is to know the effect that certain foods have on your BS levels and then to eat accordingly. No-one is saying that you should test after every meal - that is a wilful misinterpretation of what I have written. And anyway, isn't keeping your limbs and eyesight a good enough reason for you?

Everyone needs to follow their own path
Some people are not even aware that there is a path to follow. ..

Only please don't try to insist that there is only one way to do it.
Where have I ever done this? Please do not attribute imaginary statements to me - all I have ever done is to point out that blissful ignorance and a failure to take appropriate action - whatever works for the person concerned - is very unlikely to result in a positive outcome.

Unless you can recount an example of a case where an untreated and disregarded diagnosis of diabetes has ended well?

Thought not.

Is anyone still wondering why the op hasn't come back?

Thought not.

They haven't come back because they are now listed as 'guest' which means they have left the forum.

I can't really say I'm surprised, re_reading some of the responses.
