I'm a 57 yo male obese and in paroxysmal afib controlled by medication.
I started 1x500mg ordinary metformin and my troubles started
Flatulence diarrhea headaches feeling anxious very fatigued and confused some days
I stopped them after GP was pleased with my 3 monthly reading 6mmol
Not enough is known about metformin and the problems it causes to those who cannot tolerate it
If you are OK on it then fine
Now monitoring with diet and exercise metformin misery

I was put onto Metformin and a statin.
I stopped taking them after about 5 weeks, but it so messed up my memory I am not exactly certain when.
As far as I can tell there is no great benefits to be gained - all I got out of it was a professional carpet cleaner which has not been out of the box for months. My memory is still poor - I forgot to go to see my daughter on a prearranged visit, but I think some things are getting better after much re-education.
However - by sticking to eating low carb my blood glucose numbers are good and continue to improve, and my other tests seem to show no problems or improvements as well.

I take attorvastatin 20mg seeing cardiology team this week my previous GP was very reluctant to ever put me on metformin

Hi @hotdogone - Welcome to the Forum :). You ought to have asked your GP for the Slow Release Metformin which is better tolerated and kinder to your stomach.
But, there are other Diabetic drugs that can be prescribed. As for the Statin it is a personal choice and a lot of people don't take them!
