Been pumping since April this year using the Animas vibe and am self funding the Dexcom G4 sensors really striving to lower my Ha1C level. I have lost losing weight and struggling to put it on and after taking advice from my dietitian of eating more high calarie foods i have been pigging out on biscuits, cakes, chinese foods etc.. but have been dilegently using the dexcom, sugar sufing you name it to make sure my BG is in range. Following a meeting with my GP to find results of my blood tests - he advised that Thyroid, liver function etc were all normal, blood pressure is fine but he was concerned with my HA1c level...... hell i thought must be far too high must be down to all the junk food ive been eating!!... but wait for it.. no my Ha1C reading has come down to 44 and my GP advised the reading is too good and too tightly controlled!!! - Go figure!!!!.... i've been advised i needed to lower my Ha1c and with pumping and using the dexcom I have... but this is wrong?!?? Any thoughts on this and why I have been told off ?

Because your gp doesn't understand the technology you are using to manage your diabetes. Ignore him. A gp will assume a low hba1c is caused by hypos, if you aren't having problems with hypos - and you can see this on cgm - then there is no such thing as a hba1c that is "too low". Get your advice on hba1c targets from the pump clinic.

First and foremost - Well done!

They assume that if you're hbac1 is low then you must be suffering from lots of hypos, assuming you're not - Did your doc look at any of your CGM data? Could you reassure them with that data that you're not hypoing like a good'un.

And besides it's your body so you do what you think is best for you, I know I'd try and stick with 44 regardless of what my GP said (not that I'd listen to my GP about T1D issues)

Hi

44 is great. Had to see my GP about a non diabetes related issue and she asked generally how the BG control was. I mentioned the libre and she was all, I don't know about all that and swiftly moved on. I have more recent stories too from HCPs who know next to nothing about type 1 too...anyway, agree with everyone here. GPs and consultants assume hypos if hba1c is normal and when you tell them you have proof!! I love it

Cheers for comments guys and no not been hypoing like a gudd'un :hilarious: Slip.... must say though I have had maybe half a dozen readings at 3.8 - 3.9 at meal times shown on the dexcom.... but have not felt hypo at all and basically was down to my pre-bolus timings ... readings only short lived maybe for a couple of minutes whilst the carbs kicked in but chicking meter readings on a couple of occasions GB was in the low 4's.

Personally I would love to swap my HbA1c with yours - well done @Postleneo you have the admiration and support of fellow t1's here which should speak volumes, big pat on the back :)

My consultant says GPs know nothing about diabetes so to ignore them.

Great work on the 44, well done!
