To much to say.
I just had my dinner, jerk chicken with Bulgur wheat, red kidney beans, frozen onions, frozen peppers and fresh Garlic,my bs before eating was 5.6 my lowest yet,but after eating my dinner,I tested 1 hour later and my levels went up to 8.6,where is the sugar in all this,is it in the frozen stuff I used,I didn't even have a large portion,I was so happy with my 5.6 now am feeling down because of the 8.6 reading, can anyone tell me where I have gone wrong...Thank you...xox

Just looked im my collins gem carb counter and bulgar wheat 100g has 75g carbs.

Bulgur wheat is high in carbs and kidney beans have 23g per 100g so a portion of them combined with the wheat will have been enough to spike you - test again at 2 hrs and see what it is then, but I'd say next time lay off the wheat.

Oh thank you so much,it must be the wheat,I thought Bulger was ok...Am so gutted about that,I really like it...xox

Why are you so worried about your 1 hour reading? Non diabetics will spike at an hour. It's just that they come back down again by 2 hours, so you can't judge that meal without a 2 hour reading.

Ok,I just tested, but let me tell you first ,after I ate my dinner I had a few Strawberrys, blueberries and a kiwi with fresh cream, just tested and I am now 10.5 ...Am so upset because before I ate anything I had my lowest level ever of 5.6 I don't know how to undo this and now I feel in a bit of a tiss...

Well, you kept that quiet! You now don't know what caused your spike. A kiwi is 10 carbs per 100g. and has a GI of 52.

So Bluetit, sorry I just see your post before I posted my last, shoul I not test 1 hour after meal to see my peek,am still learning about it all,one day I think I understand, then another time it's like I have learnt little, was so happy with my lowest reading of 5.6 before I ate anything.

No I had the fruit after I tested having my main meal,I had the fruit and cream for a dessert

you are doing the right thing and testing after you eat. it's a learning curve to find out how many carbs you can have in a meal and which carbs just throw you eg 10g carb of some food will have the effect of 30g of carb of the other food.

I found I had to cut all grain and grain product, potato and sugary stuff to get my BG down with lchf

Thanks Jack...I need to find out how much carbs I can have,I need to stop guessing when I cook and start weighing my food out...Did it take you long to learn how to manage your carbs, today has been another eye opener for me...xox

Try to relax about your testing results. It is all trial and error. Yes, by all means test at 1 hour but you must also test at 2 hours, and then if necessary keep going every half an hour until it is dropping, but don't stress if your 1 hour reading is higher than you would like as long as it drops by 2 hours.

You made the mistake of having 2 meals too close together. You should really have eaten your dessert straight after your meal, then tested an hour after starting your meal, not between courses, if you see what I mean. Your reading at 2 hours will be all mixed up with the residue from your meal and the spike from your dessert. Please don't stress. Its all trial and error.

Oh I see,yes I got that, basically if am going to have dessert, then have it straight after my main meal so it doesn't interrupt my readings ,thank you Bluetit,I have learnt something new from you today,I won't be making that same mistake again,I feel better now because I understand where I went wrong...o_O.xox

Rosemary, have you got a book on how many carbs there are in different foods? Something along these lines is essential. Many people on here use the website myfitnesspal and also the book Carbs & Cals. There are carbs in most foods and its important you learn what they are. I also couldn't have managed initially without my digital jug scales. I weighed all my carbs, fruit and veg, yogurts, and everything. I am now used to what the portions look like on my plate so don't need to weigh as often. Guessing is bad practice because you have no real idea how many carbs you are eating until you get used to it.

No I have not Bluetit, can you recommend one for me please, and where did you buy the scales, these are the next priority on my list when I get my money next Tuesday...xox

I went cold turkey and cut all the main carb foods grain/product and potato. the only carbs I was eating were from veg. once my BG was down, then I started putting carbs back in

You have a choice if your BG is high, cut your carbs more or take stronger drugs
join the free http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ to keep an eye on your food

Thanks Jack,my iPad is to old to use my pal,but that's a good idea as well,to go cold turkey untill I buy a book and scales...Another thing I have learnt about the cold turkey...xox
