Hi, was hoping someone might be able to suggest some help

I have finished Uni and spent 2 months travelling and the last few weeks have been a nightmare with my nighttime levimir (e.g. waking up this morning at 15).

In my 2nd year of university I used to have to do 12 units before bed and last night I did 26 and it still isn't sorting it... I eat healthy as well and try to avoid fatty meals as I find it gives me a second spike.

I tried putting in a freestyle libre the other day to see in more detail what's going on but it made me bleed and didn't stick properly (first time it's ever done that), so waiting on a replacement!

Hi @nskelton

I am the same as you I avoid fatty meals too as I get a spike later on, so eating it at night means i'll start to go high around 5 hours later and then wake high. Do you split your levemir dose ?

Also worth having a go at some basal testing, going back to basics when the background isn't right is a good place to start: http://www.salforddiabetescare.co.uk/index2.php?nav_id=1007

- Have you also tried changing your insulin pen just in case it's gone off and checked your injection sites for lumps or rotate sites often ?

Have you been in a hot climate? It’s possible that your Levemir’s been affected if you have. Also, like Juicyj says, have you checked that the pen or flex is working properly? Sometimes, frustratingly, it’s not the tech, and I hope you’re not brewing a bug etc.

Hi @nskelton,
Congratulations on finishing uni ( or is it the year's uni with more to go?)
Are you still travelling. New routine = need to adjust as I ma sure you know. I agree with the answers of @Juicyj and @Fairygodmother above.
So ? regular exercise or not, ? stress of travel, ? levemir (plus other insulin) > 30 days out of the fridge (so possibly degraded and not effective), once daily or split dose levemir, ?diet changes because of travel and different routine ? Dawn phenomenon as a cause of high first morning BSLs ? increase in weight = up insulin resistance? ? Injection sites issues = poor absorption ? impending viral or other infection with travel on buses, planes etc? Did you have or need vaccinations before travel ?
Time to play Sherlock Holmes and also keep asking for help and, if need be, professional advice.
Best Wishes !
