Carbohydrate intake

I've had T2D for the past 6 years and I'm now in my mid 50's.

I only take 2 x 500mg Metformin/day and follow a LCHF diet.

I'm averaging about 40-50 grams of carbs/day and I'm concerned this may not be low enough to reduce my blood sugars. I'm currently in the 6-9 range and recently tried out the Libre Sensor. I'm 90% certain that, after using the Libre, I've drastically reduced my blood sugar spikes but overall I need lower levels.

Recently started a targeted exercise routine at my local gym so hopefully this will help.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I’d rely on your Ac1 measures over snap shot stab tests. All people suffer blood sugar spikes - it’s a healthy long term average I believe is important.
I think you will see further improvement if you do plenty of exercise. Good luck

I find my HbA1c is a pretty bad indicator of how things are going, and MUCH prefer to rely on daily testing.
Obviously this contradicts what Footrest has just said! Doesn't mean that one of us is wrong, it just reflects a different way in which we choose to manage our blood glucose levels, and probably reflects our personal experiences.

Having read about the damage that blood glucose spikes can do, I prefer to keep my blood glucose levels as steady as possible, and by using the Libre and prick testing, I generally manage to keep my blood glucose in my chosen range. It takes some pretty strict carb restriction, but I prefer to do that than risk the spikes that have, over time, started to give me stabbing pains in the soles of my feet and in my fingers when my blood glucose fluctuates too much after carby meals.

Pain avoidance is a pretty good motivator for me to control my diet! lol.

I am following a low carb diet, exercising every day and losing weight. I do have most of my carbs in the evening but won't eat anything that spikes me even if it is relatively low carb. Do you keep a food diary as it is easy to eat more carbs that you think you are!
